Bernie Sanders reaffirms his lack of respect for democracyBy kos

Voters? They had their chance and voted wrong.
Bernie Sanders is still praying for a superdelegate coup that will never happen.
Bernie Sanders reaffirmed Sunday that he is not planning to accept defeat in the primary race until the Democratic Party's convention in July, regardless of the outcome of the June 7 primaries, which include delegate-rich California and New Jersey.
The system is riggedthe first states were lily white, giving Sanders an early boost. Hes gotten 46 percent of the delegates while garnering only 43 percent of the popular vote. Hes benefited from low-turnout, undemocratic caucuses when subsequent higher-participation primaries delivered strikingly different results in Washington and Nebraska. And now, even with all those structural advantages, he still wants the supers to steal the election for him.
Ultimately, what surprises me most isnt Sanders autocratic tendencies. Its that so many people are playing along, as if democracy is optional.

(2,702 posts)If there was no such thing as the supers, Hillary could have put it away before the convention. Party rules state that a good chunk of the delegates don't cast their votes until the convention, so all these establishment types need to stop whining about Bernie staying in until every delegate makes their voice heard. They have nobody to blame but themselves for this going the distance.

(68,868 posts)He can admit as of June 8 that he lacks a moral claim to the nomination.

(216 posts)will change dramatically. He'll be on the step with hat in hand, begging for $$ to retire his massive campaign debt.

(2,052 posts)There is no coup. They vote how they want. You tally up the votes for each states pledged and unpledged. You have a winner.
Whoever they vote for is their prerogative

(2,052 posts)I'm not going to start a 30 response thread over this. We don't agree. The end.

(2,052 posts)My original post stated that the convention will reveal the winner. And now we will find out in a week. Disagreement. Nothing further.

(50,279 posts)I hate to invoke the "I" word, but there is a chance the delegates will flee Hillary en masse. Only time will tell.

(50,279 posts)He gave up on the public option while Bernie wants everyone who is a citizen of the country to automatically get medical care if they need it.
Mr Maru
(216 posts)have allowed countless numbers of people to enjoy coverage they would not have. My daughters (one of them now expecting) included. Clinging to purity would have sunk the entire effort and likely resulted in the continuation of thousands of lives lost needlessly every year to lack of coverage.
He did not "give up" on the public option and that is a damnable and ugly lie. He did the right thing to ensure the ability for us to move forward and help the greatest number of people possible, knowing the effort would continue. That's how it works. That's how important things get done.

(50,279 posts)FYI, I also was able to get coverage and I appreciate what he did. But he threw in the towel too early on the public option.

(1,339 posts)advocating for the same type of healthcare system that every other advanced industrialised nation on the world has? Profoundly broken the American system is, politically, morally, financially.
I can't believe I have to move back into this shit for a couple years.

(175 posts)If Sanders ends up with more delegates then he should have the nomination. But elections do matter.
