2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI have finally gotten back to DU. What a busy couple of months!
I cannot believe it has been over two months since I posted. Since that time, Bernie has won Oregon, and Washington, and he's on his way to winning California.
Although I canvassed for Bernie and would like to say I got him more votes in Portland area, the fact is....I am a bit discouraged. It's like the established older generations don't see what we young people see about the direction of this nation.
Are we serious that Trump is going to be the republican nominee? I'd like to say Bernie still has a chance to win this thing, but it looks more and more like we'll be seeing two people in their 60's running against each other.
I promise that if Hillary is the nominee for the Democratic Party I will support her as a candidate. But isn't there another way? I need some hope.
For now, I will encourage my friends down in California to vote for Bernie and hope we can at least make it an interesting conversation at the Democratic convention.

(23,730 posts)they're longterm activists who do more fundraising than charity or campaigning these days, and just can't see that there's anything amiss: everyone else just has to wait their turn like they did
Trump already has both the Reaganomics gentry and the ex-blue-collars whose jobs were sent to Mexico and China (and who themselves often voted for it)

Meanwhile American youth is graduating high school or college with poor prospects and (for the college grads) enormous debt. The old guard could really care less. It's not their problem...

(115,735 posts)but I don't understand your objection to two people in their 60s running against each other. If Bernie did get the nomination it would be a guy in his 70s running against a guy in his 60s. Just a little ageism going on there?

Wealth redistribution to the top 1%.

(4,205 posts)This older generation sees the good ideas and wonderful character of Bernie and his ideas..And a good percentage of my "cronies" feel the same....we are here, looking, listening and we vote too...

(43 posts)who fought the establishment way back in the 60s. I applaud all of those people. But there just aren't enough of us, I guess.
My hope is Bernie takes California by storm. If he wins even by 1% he will show the nation we are not satisfied with the status quo.

YOU and the younger generations are the hope; you will be around longer than I, and you are the future of the Democratic Party. Thank dog.
