Rise, Hillary. Rise.

Rise, Hillary, Rise – A Poem By Maya Angelou (April 4, 1928 - May 28, 2014)

Posted on January 19, 2008

You may write me down in history

With your bitter, twisted lies,

You may tread me in the very dirt

But still, like dust, I'll rise.

This is not the first time you have seen Hillary Clinton seemingly at her wits' end, but she has always risen, always risen, don't forget she has always risen, much to the dismay of her adversaries and the delight of her friends.

Hillary Clinton will not give up on you and all she asks of you is that you do not give up on her.

There is a world of difference between being a woman and being an old female. If you're born a girl, grow up, and live long enough, you can become an old female. But to become a woman is a serious matter. A woman takes responsibility for the time she takes up and the space she occupies. Hillary Clinton is a woman. She has been there and done that and has still risen. She is in this race for the long haul. She intends to make a difference in our country. Hillary Clinton intends to help our country to be what it can become.

She declares she wants to see more smiles in the family, more courtesies between men and women, more honesty in the marketplace. She is the prayer of every woman and man who longs for fair play, healthy families, good schools, and a balanced economy.

She means to rise.

Don't give up on Hillary. In fact, if you help her to rise, you will rise with her and help her make this country the wonderful, wonderful place where every man and every woman can live freely without sanctimonious piety and without crippling fear.

Rise, Hillary.

Rise.

over Barack Obama. I did not agree with her primary choice in 2008. I supported Barack Obama. Terrible me, eh?

But, I suppose you just couldn't stop yourself from posting "something" on a thread supporting HRC....

the poet did in that Primary, she in all of her wisdom opposed Barack Obama. I supported Obama. Your assertion seems to be that her support of Hillary was wise and correct, but I did not think so then, I favored Obama over Clinton, just as I now favor Sanders over Clinton.

Shall I assume you strongly opposed Obama in 2008? Do you regret his winning?

3. Curious if she would have the same thing to say about Hillary today, as she did 8 years ago.

What a wonderful woman she was.

But, much has happened since 2008 and I do wonder.

Although I do support Bernie, I still respect Maya and Hillary for their contributions to society.

2008 - Angelou is steadfast in her loyalty to Clinton. She said recently: 'I made up my mind 15 years ago that if she ever ran for office I'd be on her wagon. My only difficulty with Senator Obama is that I believe in going out with who I went in with.'

She did support Obama in 2012:

Despite their shared experience of being influential figures in the black community, Angelou at first supported Hillary Clinton over then-candidate Obama in the 2008 Democratic primary. At the time, Angelou, who was partly raised in Arkansas, had a closer relationship with the Clintons throughout their careers. She was chosen by Bill Clinton to deliver a poem at his 1993 inaugural, becoming only the second poet to read at a presidential inauguration. Angelou was not selected to deliver the poem at Mr. Obama's inauguration in 2009...

She eventually became a strong supporter of Mr. Obama, who awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom in February 2011.

During the 2012 election, however, Angelou praised the president, saying he, "he has done a remarkable job, knowing how much he has been opposed." In an interview with The Guardian in February 2012, she said Republican opposition is rooted in the fact that he is a Democrat and the first black president.
