2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumlong island newsday endorses Romney in most incoherent editorial ever
Against this we have Romney, a flawed candidate. He tends to waver on the issues, and the plans he's laid out to better the lot of the nation lack both
Specifics and mathematical rigor. These are problems, but in the current political environment, they may also become his greatest assets as president.
But Romney has shifted so opportunistically over the years on issues such as a woman's right to choose and health care reform that it's hard to be sure which Romney the nation would get. We are worried about the criteria he would use to select any justices, should an opening arise on the high court.
He is also a novice on foreign affairs who's surrounded himself with holdovers from the administration of George W. Bush, advisers who have been far to to eager to take the nation to war. His saber-rattling on Iran is worrisome
The decision to endorse Romney is not an easy one. Superstorm Sandy has made it clear that his untested notion about shifting primary responsibility for disaster relief from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to the states is a great risk. The storm should add even more urgency to deal with extreme weather and rising seas, which Romney has not addressed in his campaign.

This is their endorsement. Their office opens at 6 am. That is when I call to cancel my subscription to this rag.

(115,836 posts)on just about anything and he has no foreign policy experience but we're endorsing him anyhow because he was a businessman and ran the Olympics."
I didn't think it was possible to cram so much stupid into a single editorial.

(1,574 posts)The endorsement acknowledges that Romney is a bad candidate but endorses him anyway? This is a obvious far right wing paper.

(19 posts)I thought Newsday might be an alternative to the dreadful Post. Now I'm sadly mistaken. Of course it still doesn't have the whacked out right wing stuff going on ( like the Post) But, I was never able to get a handle on where Newsday was at- editorially.
well, now I know. This editorial board of Newsday was given one brain... parts of which were distributed to each member. It makes no sense on any level.. Beyond idiotic..

(13,614 posts)It doesn't make any sense until you realize that they dare not print the sole reason they're endorsing him: He's white.
Well, maybe not. They did endorse Obama in 2008 and Kerry in 2004. Maybe Newsday has a Mormon influence.

(2,888 posts)they did the same bullshit with an editorial favoring the repig candidate over the Democratic incumbent in LI's 1st congressional district. They said the Dem was a really good guy and did a lot for the county and Long Island....but we needed a businessman right now to create jobs. The FUCK?? A businessman?? The repig specialized in outsourcing right out of college, said shit like you get a better quality of worker in India. Fuck Newsday, the only damn paper to read on LI, but I'd rather be in the dark. Basically every media outlet on the island is controlled by the monopoly of Cablevision and the billion dollar Dolen family, or however the fuck you spell them. "News 12 - Only on Cablevision, NEVER on Satellite" Of course it's not on satellite...it's owned by your monopoly you fuckers!!!! And now they own Newsday too. Pssht, they (Newsday) might as well have sold out to Murdoch when he was trying to buy them a few years back, it would have been the same shit.
