Related: About this forumEditorial: Elect Mitt Romney president of the United States (Newsday)
<snip>
Had Barack Obama done the job of president with the same passion and vision he displayed in seeking it, he would likely deserve another term. He did not.
Against this we must weigh Mitt Romney, an imperfect candidate but one who has a special track record too. From his creation of a vast personal fortune to his successful stewardship of the threatened Salt Lake City Olympics to his governing of Massachusetts, Romney's life is a tale of success after success, many of them achieved in difficult circumstances.
Romney's potential to put America back to work earns him our endorsement.
Obama's failure to accelerate the improvement of the economy is the dominant reason Romney is the right choice, but it's not the only one. There are also the broken promises. On the campaign trail in 2008, Obama promised to halve the annual budget deficit of the United States. Instead, the shortfall has remained over $1 trillion per year, and the national debt has increased about 45 percent.

It's curious that only a few days after the hurricane they would endorse someone who previously stated his intention to cut FEMA. Perhaps some Long Island DU'ers can enlighten us.

All these newspapers endorsements for Mitt Romney seem to had been written by the same person.

(44,974 posts)He did get rich. But how does that qualify him to be president?
Mr.Bill
(24,319 posts)a quarter billion is small time. We had a guy in California, Steve Poizner, running for Governor. He's worth over a billion. He spent over 50 million of his own money on his campaign, and didn't even win the primary.

(2,888 posts)is so controlled it's pathetic. It sucks as the Times, the Post, and the Daily News (the latter two unashamedly rags, of course) barely cover LI unless a headless body is found in a topless bar, and the same goes for the city tv news affiliates of NBC, CBS, local FOX (not Faux Snooze), and ABC. So you're stuck with the new rag on the block Newsday and cablevision's own News 12. Don't have Cablevision? Then fuck you, you get no local news.
I stopped reading them when they raised their price to more than 50 cents. And god forbid they lift their priced access on their web site for hurricane sandy and its aftermath. The NY times did it until this weekend. The only way you can get local storm and outages updates is to either shell out for the online subscription or...you guessed it, have Cablevision!! Or you could always watch News 12....owned by Cablevision. God get me off this island.

(1,113 posts)Fails to mention the war on America's recovery declared by Republican leaders of Congress on the day of Obama's inauguration, the 5-1/2 million probate sector jobs added in spite of the GOP's shrinking of the stimulus, or the fact that he cut the deficit by a third, if not a half.
The right wing nuts on LI all moved out there to get away from the foreign immigrants and minorities on the City, so they wind up with a newspaper that panders to their folly, to their own detriment.

(645 posts)and then they basically went "SO LETS ELECT THE GUY WHO DOESN'T BELIEVE IN CLIMATE CHANGE AND IS SO SECRETIVE HE WON'T EVEN RELEASE HIS TAX RETURNS!"

(2,888 posts)as someone else posted, they are now owned by the billionaire Dolan family, very powerful out here, who have donated to rmoney. The editorial board must comply with their corporate overlords. Free press? Not on LI. My blood boiled when i first read this and I was going to post it here on DU...but i'm glad others have seen it too and beat me to the punch.
