Georgia Rep. Terry England Compares Women to Cows, Pigs and Chickens

In the Georgia House of Representatives, the anti-women rhetoric of the radical right reached a new low last week when Rep. Terry England (R-Auburn) compared women to cows, pigs and chickens.

In an emotional appeal from the well of the House during the debate on a junk-science-based bill targeting women struggling with high-risk pregnancies, Rep. England was nearly moved to tears as he compared the tough choices those women face with a farmer giving up chickens used for cock fighting. Think I might be exaggerating? See for yourself:

when an outrage finally made it all fall into place so that we could see the whole problem quite clearly. Younger women have missed this.

Until now. Those clicks are starting to sound like duelling castanets.

"Last Friday, the Council, Afghanistan's highest Islamic authority, "issued a non-binding edict saying that women were worth less than men – a statement released... by Mr Karzai's office and then endorsed by the president on Tuesday."

"'Men are fundamental and women are secondary,' it said, adding women should avoid 'mingling with strange men in various social activities such as education, in bazaars, in offices and other aspects of life'."
