East San Fernando Valley for Bernie
Heads up. Just got a Latino targeted voter guide, which not only didn't include Bernie, but also directed me to the wrong polling place. Ballot was sent out by "Our Voice Latino Voter Guide", an offshoot of Diverse Strategies for Organizing, Inc., run by Clinton supporter Víctor Griego.

(10,156 posts)It's legal, if misleading. And not a new tactic. Groups can legally send out election fliers without the consent of the candidates as well - in my local assembly race we're getting a least one flyer a day for a certain candidate. He was questioned about this on a community website and swore it wasn't him, and claimed election laws won't let him tell them to stop, as that would be collusion.

(10,156 posts)It's free speech, sleazy and preying on the short attention span of low-information voters, but legal. Bemildred's post below sums up what should be done with such mailers.
Now if this had been sent out by the county or state it would be another matter, but individuals and organizations are free to slime candidates as far as the law allows, which in the US is pretty darn far when it comes to public figures. And no matter who is the Democratic nominee, expect to see a lot of this come the general election.
