2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumOhio State Senator Nina Turner just used the term "working class African Americans" on MSNBC
Excellent
The corporate-controlled media always refers to "working-class" whites. They never refer to blacks as working-class. NEVER.
The media is part of the problem when it comes to portraying African Americans in an unflattering light. They want people to think of blacks as a bunch of lazy, food stamp collecting welfare queens. This is definitely systemic and of course Faux Newz is the biggest offender.
We've even reached the point where major politicians like New Gingrich refer to Obama as the food stamp President. Romney campaign surrogates call him lazy and consistently imply he got into Harvard, not because of his brains, but because of affirmative action. The racism is so thick you can choke on it.
It was refreshing to finally see someone on TV refer to blacks as working-class.

I hate that the dog whistles are always for poor blacks/food stamp recipients/welfare...

(81,467 posts)Yeah, it always seems to be the bad old days being brought back and - pardon the expression - whitewashed. I had hoped that Barack Obama's election in 2008 would mark the turning point in America, where a critical mass of us finally woke up all the way and shed the old, bad, dried-out, shriveled-up, obsolete, and despicable outer shell of racism. Finally buried that beast 1,000 feet under, in cement. Man, was I wrong. It just reactivated the klan and the john birch society. Disguised as a bag of tea.
Glad you're here. This election isn't won yet. We need you. We need every last one of us!
Now get to work.

(25,415 posts)Gets very fired up and angry toward any voter suppression issues and at racism. As a white middle class woman that grew up in wealthy town, I find it disgusting how Repubs try and portray minorities. She makes a great point here.

(81,467 posts)Glad she's on our side! Every time she's on, she's utterly arresting. I stop in my tracks to pay attention. I hope she doesn't stay local only to Ohio for long. Backbone of steel, quick-witted, gutsy as hell - really nails it and is not afraid to speak the whole bare raw uncomfortable truth. Speaks truth to power to those damn republi-CONS she has to put up with. We could use her on a national platform of some sort!
I think Nina Turner is just AWESOME!!!
