Last-Minute Ohio Directive Could Trash Legal Votes And Swing The Election

Last-Minute Ohio Directive Could Trash Legal Votes And Swing The Election

A last-minute directive issued by Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted could invalidate legal provisional ballots. Ohio is widely viewed as the most critical state for both presidential campaigns and — with some polls showing a close race — the 11th-hour move could swing the entire election.

The directive, issued Friday, lays out the requirements for submitting a provisional ballot. The directive includes a form which puts the burden on the voter to correctly record the form of ID provided to election officials. Husted also instructed election officials that if the form is not filled out correctly by a voter, the ballot should not be counted.

2. Secretaries of State should be stripped of the power to be involved with elections

Partisan political officials should not be allowed to try to fix the vote in favor of their party.

Hard to believe this is still going on in the year 2012.

As I've said before, I don't think it's allowed in other Western countries - it's what you'd expect in a 3rd-world dictatorship.

It should be run by an independent government agency or civil service whose duty is to the public, rather than to a particular political party.

Glad Obama has paths that don't include Ohio, cause clearly it's gonna be a mess. This shit has *got* to stop. Our democracy demands it.

Our AG, Eric Holder, needs to start doing his fucking job instead of not rocking the boat. This is a critical time for this country and tactics like these need to be stopped in their tracks.

After doing everything in her power to steal the election from Gore, the Republican party threw her under the bus. They used her, chewed her and spat her out. her political career went nowhere and now she's a total nobody

The adult voter is supposed to fill the form out correctly or it doesn't count and it is somehow the Secretary of States fault? Don't we have any responsibility in making sure we do it correctly? If the directions are on there why should incorrect votes be counted? It sounds like they are really just trying to make if fair for everybody. When you get all pissed off about it you make it sound like our side is the only one that will be hurt by that and by that logic we are a bunch of idiots who need help. Why not assume it is the stupid republicans that won't be filling it out correctly? They are stupid so my first thought was a bunch of GOP votes will be tossed. Remember we are the smart ones, right?
