2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhen will MSNBC call the race?
That is, when will they declare a winner in the Democratic primary?
I'm using MSNBC as a guidepost because CNN tends to delay a while in making projections, the three broadcast networks are all over the place, and FNC can kiss my ass.
When will MSNBC call it?

(10,437 posts)so I suspect hillary will be called the "presumed nominee" officially within 2 hours or so of that....as she gets the delegates from New Jersey that puts her over the top
and we will have sanders people doing their best karl rove impersonation (when obama won Ohio in 2012).....and embarrassing themselves even more than they already have
then we will have the defining moment for sanders....does he man up and congratulate and offer 100% full support to hillary at that time? And demonstrate to have some class....??
or will be the angry old socialist sulking back to vermont wishing evil on america with trump....

(18,115 posts)At 11 pm when California polls close, they should refer to her as the presumptive nominee. At that point she will have secured a majority of the pledged delegates as well as the endorsement of enough supers to make the call legitimate.

Somewhat academic, because she's already obviously the nominee but I guess they need the votes/exit polls to confirm that a miracle didn't happen.

So no, MSNBC doesn't get to call the election.
