2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumFlorida: when I left St. Petersburg to drive home today, the line was around the block!
I haven't seen lines like that in my 20 years here. If that really continues, Romney is doomed before Tuesday. The early voters are by far and away Democrats. The ballot here takes 10 minutes to read! Eleven amendments, two pages front and back. What's funny is that the GOP has told their folks to take a long time to vote on Friday, to slow up the line. If they actually do that, it makes the early voting more effective. I don't know how many Democrats voted absentee, but the number is growing.

(13,776 posts)No wonder Charlie Christ is persona non grata with the GOP--he's a decent guy who did the right thing to make it easier for EVERYBODY to vote, not just Republicans. I felt that he didn't get enough credit in that segment because when they talked about the GOP making it hard to vote, he kind of got bunched in there with them. Anyway, it really was inspiring to see all those people giving Rick Scott a big middle finger by voting despite his best efforts. I hope their sacrifice is rewarded on Tuesday, bless their hearts.

(9,070 posts)I was surprised to see the long lines on Friday afternoon. Usually, the only lines are on Tuesday am.

(2,500 posts)How can Florida voters of any party tolerate a state governed by a man who wants to deny them the right to vote for their representatives in government?
I don't understand why the outrage isn't more intense. It's so obvious that nobody outside of the teabagger freaks could deny it. The people of Florida should declare total war on Fla state republicans.

(26,045 posts)...considering it's the result of Republican voter suppression efforts. How many of those voters -- who wouldn't have had to wait for hours in previous elections -- will wind up getting tired and going home without voting? If Scott and his cronies can depress Democratic early voting by even 3%, it might be enough to deliver the state to Romney.

My wife went today after work and it took well over an hour.

(17 posts)I ended up going to around 70 houses. What I thought was true; the houses without the Romney signs were pretty much all for Obama. I had one older couple that said they didn't like either and were not going to vote and another woman I think I converted to Obama(with some help from her son). It was definitely encouraging. I had one woman with a Romney sign that was her husbands but the amount that voted already and people that were voting tomorrow(Saturday) was incredible. I'm starting to feel really good about Florida!!!

(44,974 posts)Hopefully people who were determined to vote but were unable to will turn up. Gov Scott appears to be working hard to keep the state republican, but it doesn't appear anything can be done at this point.

(9,070 posts)they are not sold on Romney either. It may be close, but I think FL is in play and the long lines are mostly Democrats. I'm really optimistic this time.
