Being a candidate here in Orlando certainly is a mixed blessing. On one hand, voters are inundated with “messaging” from the Presidential campaigns – probably $50 million of it by next Tuesday. That distracts voters from other races like ours, and drives the cost of advertising sky-high. It also makes it hard to attract media coverage, or discuss issues.

On the other hand, it creates this exciting possibility: that our get-out-the-vote effort will have a direct impact not only on our election, but also on the Presidential election, and even on control of the Senate.

Florida is a swing state with 29 electoral votes. It’s hard to see how a Republican candidate for President could win the election unless he or she wins Florida. The Panhandle in the north of Florida is “red,” and South Florida is “blue.” So it always comes down to what happens in the “I-4 Corridor” – Daytona Beach, Orlando and Tampa-St. Petersburg. Which is where our voters are.

The Huffington Post says that the Presidential polling average for Florida today is Obama 48%, Romney 48%, undecided 4%.

As for the Senate, again, it’s hard to see how the Republicans can take control of it – to the extent that anyone ever “controls” that august body – unless the Republicans defeat Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL), and replace him with Connie Mack. And if Sen. Nelson wins, it will be because he wins in the I-4 Corridor, where we are.

We are hardly innocent bystanders in those races. This campaign is operating the only paid Democratic field operation in Orlando. President Obama is relying on volunteers, and Sen. Nelson is concentrating on paid media. Candidates lower on the ballot can’t afford a field program.

There is one other paid field operation in Orlando. It’s run by the Koch Brothers. You can guess whom they support.

Our field operation is doing just what it has been doing since March – identifying supporters, delivering campaign literature right to voters’ doors, discussing the issues and the candidates with the voters, generating requests to vote by mail, urging people to turn those ballots in on time, telling people where the “early voting” sites are located, and making sure that our voters can get to the polls. In other words, generating Grayson votes.

And Obama votes. And Nelson votes. Ninety percent of the time, a vote for Grayson is a vote for Obama, and a vote for Nelson.

Which allows us to make this outstanding, one-time, special offer to you. When you support this campaign, you get three for the price of one. Your contributions to this campaign help to determine not just my fate, but the fate of the Presidency and the Senate. The fate of the government, and the nation.

3 for the price of 1! Which means 67% off! But for 4 days only!

What other campaign in the nation can offer you that kind of bargain? But don’t delay – make your contribution today!

If i ever make it to Florida, I'm buying you dinner and a beer, no excuses. The time you stood up to the Republicans during the health care debate was one of the greatest moments in US politics I've ever witnessed.

Your vote on the healthcare bill, quite frankly, saved my ass when i lost my job.

Things are better for me now, so i owe you. Believe me, you earned it!

Thank you for fighting the good fight!

it is not just a damn game.

I may have given more than was prudent during this election cycle.

There were worse ways to spend this money.

I, too, will need healthcare when I graduate law school and attempt to start my own business.
