As a three-term congressman from the northern part of the state, Donnelly has a good feel for what goes on in Washington and how to make a difference. And he has learned from Bayh and Lugar. Mourdock, on the other hand, doesn’t want to be part of Washington politics. In an interview with The Herald Bulletin’s editorial board, he expressed contempt for the nation’s capital and said he would continue to live in Indiana. Indeed, he had rallied supporters in the GOP primary by pointing out that Lugar spent nearly all of his time in Washington.

But isn’t that what Indiana needs, a senator who will collaborate with others in Washington to create sound public policy and leverage a fair shake for Hoosiers, rather than separating himself as an outsider?
