when you live in the part of ohio that i do

it's hard to imagine obama winning this state. but now and then, from between the jacked up pickup trucks and coondog kennels and the tvs blaring the noise from fox news i'll spy the occasional obama sign, and it gives me hope. if not for these all too infrequent traces of sanity and the news from DU, i'd be a very forlorn camper. is that glenn beck and banjos i hear?

Illinois is about as blue as blue gets and yet in rural southern Illinois where I live, my blue Obama yard sign is very lonely. Even my fellow teachers at the high school who of course are all part of the union and owe their economic status almost entirely to that fact are more concerned about their gun rights than any other issue. They still think O will take their guns even though he done absolutely nothing progressive on that issue. I had a farmer come to buy hay from me last week for his cattle, saw the yard sign and left. I just laughed, after the summer drought I wont have trouble selling my hay this winter, his loss...

which is a pretty liberal town, but almost everything within 100 miles either way from Athens is pretty much either sparesly populated, or redneck, I could always here the banjos from Deliverance playing when I drove to or from Athens. I grew up in NE Ohio and it is a pretty strong DEM Union area, so hopefully they carry the day. I feel more comfortable that Obama will win Ohio than I do that he will win Florida.

The view from the Soviet of Seattle is a little different than it was when I grew up on Cincinnati's German Catholic west side.

All my relatives are still there, judging folks they don't know, listening to Limbaugh & Fox, and voting straight GOP.

It makes me very happy to see the north of the state assert it's Liberal heart over Cincinnati's curdled bitter suburbs. Ohio, save us from ourselves.

And I wonder if Akron is for Obama this time around? I went to visit in 08 during the election season, and there were Obama signs everywhere. I hope it's still the case.
