Sanders Campaign Statement on Clintons Comments
May 19, 2016
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders spokesman, Michael Briggs, on Thursday issued the following statement after Secretary Hillary Clinton told CNN she will be the Democratic Partys nominee for president:
In the past three weeks voters in Indiana, West Virginia and Oregon respectfully disagreed with Secretary Clinton. We expect voters in the remaining nine contests also will disagree. And with almost every national and state poll showing Sen. Sanders doing much, much better than Secretary Clinton against Donald Trump, it is clear that millions of Americans have growing doubts about the Clinton campaign.

(2,054 posts)It's up to the free agent super delegates to pick the nominee.
A few hundred super delegates may once again abandon Hillary and vote for her opponent just like they did at the 2008 convention.
That's the great fear in her camp.
They did it once to her and why in their own self-interest (wanting to defeat Trump) they may do so once again.

(42,714 posts)-- the shift that gave him the nomination before the convention -- occurred when Obama secured a majority of pledged delegates.
At what point in time do you envision Sanders securing a majority of the pledged delegates?

(587 posts)It is not up to the SD's to pick the nominee. The SD's get a vote. The nominee still needs to get enough votes (pledged and SD) to reach 2383.
You make it sound like if nobody gets 2383 on pledged delegates, they start over and the SD's choose. That's not true.
Also, while the SD's are free to vote as they like, they are also free to disclose their vote. So far, most (almost all, really) have announced they are supporting HRC.
The simple fact is that there are not enough uncommitted SD's left to give enough votes to Bernie to win. The only way for him would be for virtually ALL of the SD's - including the vast, vast majority who have committed to HRC, to go back on their word and switch to him.
Him, having won less states, less of the popular vote, less pledged delegates and not being a long-term party member.
HRC has swayed 5% of all Bernie's committed SD's over to her in the last few days. Even if Bernie was able to do this times ten, and get 50% of her committed SD's to his camp, he still loses.
It's over. He's lost. He's done. Time to pack up and go home. After he gives his full and uncompromising support to the nominee, HRC, of course.

(42,714 posts)And why wouldn't Trump defeat Sanders? Do you think Sanders can win without the "Democratic establishment"?
Is Sanders going to campaign side by side with Democratic congress critters and Senators and Governors in blue states if those elected officials are part of the Democratic establishment?

(3,733 posts)That says he's going to be King Of The Whole Universe.
That's at least as realistic as him thinking he
still has a chance at the nomination.

(3,733 posts)supporters who think the SDs are going to flip to Sanders if Hillary has
the most pledged delegates.
Keep that wishful thinking going tho.
And buy a lotto ticket while you're wishing.
Bernie will not be our nominee.

Include super delegates and she wins.

(2,054 posts)Must be the new math .... silly math.
The Second Stone
(2,900 posts)in case that hasn't been noticed. Old fashioned math. 2,383 needed to win. Clinton has 2,293 and there are 939 still up for votes. Clinton will get just over half of those, there is no way she will not get 106 of them. That is clinched.
I truly would love to play poker with Sanders supporters.
