Am I the Only One that Doesn't Think Rove is a Genius?

It seems like every time someone brings up Rove, everyone scatters and hides under the bed. "Oh god, he wrote an article, run for your lives!".

I hear about all of these shady, super secret Rovian strategies to rig voting machines, manipulate polls, pass crazy laws, raise billions of dollars for Republicans, steal elections, put subliminal messages into ads; he is like a right wing ninja, striking with deadly efficiency. He is such a manipulative genius he could convince any of us to cut our own head off with a butter knife, if he wanted. He is the most dangerous man in America.

The thing is, I don't quite understand where this reputation comes from. I see him more as a petty weasel that may have helped Bush politically, at some points, but otherwise has done very little to earn his reputation. All I see is a man who's advice works about 15% of the time and who's predictions are almost always widely off. He seems less like the devil incarnate and more like a petty con artist who happens to know some rich and powerful people. He seems to be more on par with a used car salesman screwing little old ladies on their trade ins and less of a deadly political assassin.

It doesn't take a genius to manipulate mouth-breathing knuckle-draggers, who make up the huge majority of his target market.

Dickheads such as the Kochs, Trump, etc. get the press, but it is the fucking idiots who go out and vote as they are told to do who do the damage.

He's only a genius to his intended audience. Considering he first got that reputation here in Texas, that's not saying much for his "genius".

It's easy to look smarter or stronger when your side stops playing by the accepted rules.
He's just a sneak that tells rich people what they want to hear.
That little piggy can be destroyed.
And it could most readily be accomplished with his own methods.
He's Dirty, Greedy, and thinks that cheating makes him superior.
So he can be got.
I think it would be great fun.
( but I can't afford to construct the trap.)

Neither Gore nor Kerry saw the need to counter Rove's lies and it cost them badly. Maybe they couldn't believe that anybody would ever stoop to that level, but Rove has no scruples at all. There is no boundary he will not cross. Rove is a classic bully and both Gore and Kerry were of the statesman mold -- making them very susceptible to bullying.

Rove met his match with Obama (and Pflouffe / Axelrod). I am very proud that our President did not stoop to the kind of lying that we saw daily from Romney, Ryan and the various PACs, including the ones Rove controls. They beat "Bush's brain" without lowering themselves to his level.

I don't see the Republicans suddenly developing a strong sense of ethics and honesty, so we should assume 2016 will be every bit as bad as 2012, I only hope we can find a candidate for 2016 who can stand as tall as Obama.

Assuming 2000 wasn't stolen (it was), his campaign won by 500 votes in Florida and in 2004, it was the smallest reelection margin in presidential history. I think if he was a real genius, Bush probably would have won by much larger margins a couple of votes.

His candidate lost in 2000, then (if you accept the 2004 election as legit) barely squeaked by after having a 93% approval rating after 9/11.

Breaking the law and pulling childish dirty tricks that barely rise above "ordering 100 pizzas in your opponent's name"-type pranks, doesn't take a genius.

I have NEVER understood why so many here have shuddered at his very name and thought him capable of, well, anything.

Probably the smartest thing he HAS done is getting people to think he's some evil genius behind every plot, conspiracy, and coincidence.
