Perspective from a Sanders delegate
I made a comment about this in the "On Nevada, 'Democracy,' violence, and todays primaries" stickied post, but I feel this is important enough to warrant its own post.
I spent the entire weekend at the convention and the protest. (edit: Proof I was there)
Let me make something perfectly clear: WE. WERE. NOT. VIOLENT. The media is straight up lying about this. There were no chairs thrown, and as far as I know, there was no kind of fight that occurred. I've seen a picture going around of a security guy bending over a guy on the floor, but there were two instances of medical emergencies (and one false alarm by Roberta Lange designed to distract us) in which the security people rushed over to help out, and I'm positive that's what that picture is showing.
We went out of our way to remain peaceful. One guy did rush the stage with a chair with the intent to throw it after Lange ended the convention prematurely, but the rest of us stopped him, because we knew that we had to remain peaceful.
At the protest the next day, we were giving people the peace sign, which was reciprocated by many people by flipping us off and yelling vulgarities at us, which was in turn reciprocated by us by forming the "heart" sign with our hands and telling them that we love them anyway.
The notion that Bernie supporters were violent at the convention or at the protest is a complete LIE fabricated by the media to make us look like the bad guys, AND EVERYONE NEEDS TO STOP PERPETUATING IT, AND START INFORMING PEOPLE OF THE TRUTH: WE WERE PEACEFUL.
