A different perspective on elections.

I, like everyone here gets bombarded by poll results all day long leading up to the election. I used to take this for granted as part of the election process. Twenty years ago, I moved from Silicon Valley to a small northern california county, and I noticed the most amazing thing. There are no polls here for the local election. We absolutely have no idea who will win until the election is over. It's actually a breath of fresh air to the election process to not have any "experts" tell us how it will turn out.

We had a hotly contested Sheriff's election here two years ago, and it wasn't even close. But it looked close to me until it was over. The whole atmosphere of no polling has motivated me more than ever to get out and vote, and I have also been working at the polls for the past few election.

I am convinced that the current national polling is nothing but a way to make everyone think it's close to get TV ratings for cable news. It really serves no other function.

Your thoughts? Would our national elections come out different if there were no polls?
