2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBurlington College shutdown catches the media's attention.
From Politico, excerpts:
Burlington College, which Jane Sanders ran from 2004 to 2011, will close its doors on May 27 due to financial and accrediting problems, it was announced Monday. The college has about 70 students.
Jane Sanders tenure as president of the tiny school in Burlington, Vt., saw it make a bold real estate purchase to replace its cramped quarters: Sanders spearheaded a deal to buy 33 acres along Lake Champlain, in hopes that the scenic property would help the college attract new students and donors. To pay for the prime lakefront land, the college used $10 million in bonds and loans, according to reports by the Burlington Free Press.
But the large expenditure didnt pan out, Sanders resigned the following year, and her successors could not save the college from financial ruin....
Neither Sanders nor the college has said why she left, but she reportedly got a $200,000 severance package.
And last year, the college sold most of the lakefront property in a desperate bid to stave off its mounting money woes. It kept 6 acres and the main building where classes are held.
The colleges board of trustees voted Friday to close after it was notified that a $1 million line of credit would not be renewed, Moore said. College officials had succeeded in lowering debt on the campus property from more than $11 million to slightly greater than $2.2 million, but the additional line of credit was essential to continue operating said Coralee Holm, the colleges dean of operations and advancement.

(5,815 posts)Do you have any words for the children of Libya killed by Clinton's policies. You seem to care a great deal for students earning degrees.
How much do you care about children deserving of life?

(11,989 posts)But if you look at public statements about supporting various military interventions, everything Bernie was for, Hillary was for as well (if she made any position known at all), whereas the reverse is not true. No one is saying Bernie is a dove, but he is not the hawk Hillary is. And btw, funding is in a different category from the rest. Many opposed, spoke against, and voted against giving GWB the authorization to pursue the Iraq War; but once the troops were there, still voted for the funds to allow them, once there, to have the best chance of success. Once a bad decision is made, you still try to make the best of a bad situation. It's kind of a matter of not cutting off your nose to spite your face.

(6,551 posts)I've spent my career helping students earn them.
I also care a great deal about the hypocrisy of a candidate whose record and biography has been given a free pass by the media.
While Hillary's has been sliced and diced daily, as on this forum.

Okedoke.
So that's where you stand.

(5,815 posts)I agree. We do. We've killed too many civilians.
Have you seen their dead faces, Betty, or are those lives just message board fodder for you?

(47,209 posts)Fuck that "tactic", it is low.
SBS will kill people dead with drones, their faces will be equally pitiful. Be careful what you wish for.

(5,815 posts)It is life and death to the people who live in fear under our tyranny.
How would you like it, if you were off in your backyard having a barbecue, looking skyward and hoping lightning didn't strike you dead on the spot? How would you enjoy an existence where you knew your family could be snuffed out with no warning? Maybe because someone in your household has the wrong name, or said hi to the wrong friends? How would you enjoy walking into the house to grab some ribs and walking back out to find your children in pieces?
That's what these people live under.
Do you care?
You really don't seem to care. You just want to score internet points *pat pat* Good for you. It's "ghoulish" only to you. That's called "everyday life" in too much of the world. If you find it ghoulish, maybe you shouldn't support it.

(5,815 posts)So we're not nailing innocent families to the ground for the flimsiest of reasons under information gleaned with monetary incentive.
Did you read his position? It's pretty thorough. The fact you think they're the Same Thing tells me I don't think you did.
And what does it say about you, that you can't be bothered to spend even 20, comfortably seated on your rear as usual, seconds glancing at government policy regarding taking out random families in the Middle East?
I hope you're not feeling too moral today.
