Now that the secret's out, Bernie can release those tax returns.

Jane incompetently developed a pipe dream proposal filled with holes, convinced a local bank and the Board of Trustees that it was within reach just over the rainbow, and the college is closing because of it.

She makes off with $200k. Quite a windfall from a college comprised of one building and less than 300 students at the time.

The horrors of income inequality? Jane's actions and the college's consequences are a prime example of it.

Nobody, not the students without degrees, not the unemployed faculty and staff, not the bank stuck with a huge unpaid loan, are singing the praises of long gone President Jane. Nor the estate of the man who donated $70,000 for student scholarships, and the school spent all the money paying the bills. The suit the estate filed against the college, is of course worthless.

But the one positive is that now Bernie can release the tax returns. The secret's out and he can meet the standard that Clinton has met for many, many years.

It speaks to the veracity of the Sanders who put forth ridiculous reasons for their so-called delay in releasing the returns ('Turbotax is too hard to understand!') when clearly a return would expose the contradiction between personal behavior and responsibilities and their campaign's chief message of the injustice of income inequality.

There has been no vetting by the media of Sanders' biography. He and Jane have been given a free pass from the media throughout the campaign.

If the tax returns were released, it would have blown the Burlington College fiasco wide open in the media as they examined Bernie's returns.

Now that the story's out, why not release all of the returns? There may well be nothing else that's problematic for Bernie. Other than Jane being a greedy incompetent who stomped on her college as she slinged her huge bag of $$$ over her shoulders as she walked out the door.

Given how the media has given Bernie's biography a free pass, they may ignore the college's closing and Jane's role in it.

It's not been of great interest to peopel outside of that little communityu, but it's been reported on.

It's not a great accomplishment on her part, but it also not that unusual for college presidents and otehr leaders of such institutions.

And she is not running for president.

Clinton has had some mess ups, on a much larger scale.

Very few media outlets have reported on Jane's controversial tenure except the Burlington Free Press, an old story in Politico, and I think an old one in the Washington Post.

Armstead, it's not fair to individually equate Jane with Hillary and I did not mean to do that. It is fair to equate Jane with Bill Clinton as either will be First Lady or the male equivalent.

And on this forum, Bill Clinton has been sliced and diced many, many times.

It is fair to equate both couples as each has worked as a team throughout the campaign.

I admit that this story strikes quite a nerve for me because of the obvious hypocrisy and because to date, Bernie's public reputation for honesty and a straight shooter has been riding on a wave driven in part by a media's refusal to vet the candidate purely because of the profits that a horserace continues to generate for them.

But the Republicans have vetted Bernie thoroughly and that is why they are salivating to get Bernie to the general. Millions they've spent on anti-Hillary ads and not a dime on Bernie. Their motive could not be more obvious.

I read the stories about it. Certainly not an experience one would want on their resume, but it was more of a case of counting on things that didn't appear as expected. It wasn't a swindle or an attempt to line her pockets. It was a bet on expansion that didn;t pay off, and misunderstanding about about anticipated contributions.

Her severance package was pretty standard fare too.

If Bernie were to get to the nomination, sure it would be a "scandle du jour" but I don't think it would have legs.

She's also not in the league of Bill Clinton. They operate in different universes.

PS - as of today they released ONE year's tax returns - 2014. Nothing before that and nothing after that (2015), even though Jane Sanders promised to Andrea Mitchell on live television the day before they left for Rome that she would release them "when they are due", which was on April 18. Wednesday that will be a month ago.

When I was about 4 years old, one of my go-to defenses when my mom told me off for doing something was "but bobby did it tooooooo!"

I think I learned by about 6yo that this line of reasoning didn't work.

Yet here it is on DU for all to see.

I will not ignore his role. No one in our system doesn't get corrupted to some degree.

And our military did. And once we were done, the barbarians took over and killed more.

I taught at a college that came within 24 hours of having to declare bankruptcy after gambling big that a student-center dorm complex would make big bucks as a convention center. It didn't. And students avoided the living in that dorm as it was $90 more a month each for a small shared room, alumae failed to meet their targeted goal in donations. In the end, a gift was made by a friend of a trustee that satisfied the lender to allow the college to extend the deadline to meet its obligation.

Bad financial events happen to marginal colleges all too commonly... and it is often as not a matter of failing to meet an optimistically guessed at projection of giving that gets them in trouble. Usually making those projections involves more than just the college president.
