Bernie supporters revive archaic gender attitudes

America is at a turning point when it comes to feminism. The wage gap for women is slowly closing and there are more and more options in California for paid family leave. There are still those who believe that women’s rights is a battle that ended in 1920 when women won the right to vote.

Sorry to break it to you, but the battle is far from over. A number of Democratic voters who pride themselves on being progressives continue to distrust Hillary Clinton solely based on her gender. This misogyny in millennial males has manifested itself in a group called the Bernie Bros.

Bernie Bros are young, typically heterosexual white men who have developed an idea that only a man can possibly fill the shoes of the male presidents of the past. Rather than focus on issues of the election, these young people have begun a series of attacks on Hillary Clinton’s gender incapabilities.

The Atlantic describes Bernie Bros as “white; well-educated; middle-class (or, delicately, “upper middle-class”); and aware of NPR podcasts and jangly bearded bands,” among other descriptions of these Bernie supporters.

In the Hillary campaign has been how everything we dislike in Hillary is because of her gender. It just isn't true. Sanders, and his supporters fully support abortion rights, equal pay, and all woman's rights, all other social issues, just like the Third Way Democrats.

We also support more economic equality, which Hillary does not.

http://goldengatexpress.org/2016/05/10/bernie-supporters-revive-archaic-gender-attitudes/

...........When Hillary Clinton was attending college in the late 1960s, there were 12 women in the United States Congress, according to the Congressional Research Service. The environment in which Hillary Clinton grew up in provided no clear path for her achievements.

If Hillary Clinton were a man, there would be no competition between her and Senator Sanders. The Bernie Bros be more supportive of her and no Republican would stand a chance.

As a Bernie Sanders supporter myself, I can name a number of real issues that are driving me to vote for Sanders over Clinton. A few examples include his strong approach to shifting the American market to a clean power market to create new jobs, like most Western European countries have already done, and his real solutions to solving the education through increased taxation and increased reward. A Sanders presidency to me means America will be able to keep up with the rest of the developed nations on its policies for its people. If I could get behind a female candidate and support her term, I would. But Hillary Clinton’s gender should not be a factor in not voting for her.

It would be naive to say that gender is not a factor in the presidential race. But at least as liberal voters, we should be able to agree that a woman is capable of doing the same job as a man............

Most Bernie supporters know that the Bernie Bro meme is wrong.

BTW, found her on social media. There's no evidence she's an avid Bernie supporter. She may vote for him, but she's not what I'd term a "supporter." Obviously she's never volunteered or she'd know her "Bernie Bro" premise is flat out wrong.

Sure, the DNC will try to blame Bernie supporters, but the fault doesn't lie with us or black people. It's lies with Hillary.

Every fucking election we hear this yet the Thirdway DNC will install whomever they want and have.

We install leaders in other countries, what makes the U.S. any different. With all the voting shenanigans we have witnessed, we still believe our electoral system produces fair results.

I have voted Dem all my fucking life and have absolutely nothing to show for it. I've never fully recovered from Nafta and now I'm supposed to vote for NAFTA version 2?

Standing there, looking up at the two very tall buildings of the Democratic and Republican Party, it's hard to tell which one is taller. They both look about the same.

I guess the middle class people, you know the $250,000 a year folks Hillary talks about, are high enough up to see the difference between the parties. Most of us down here on the ground, that are actually affected by globalization, low minimum wages, poor trade policies, and helping Republicans slice policies that benefit the poorest? Well both parties look pretty much the same, to us.

significance with the supporters, thought the ones I saw gathered toward Sanders was another tell for me to do my research. But, Sanders himself with his dismissal of women and our issues. There have been quite a few incidences for me, but to start was one with PP. When the right was attacking PP, Sanders handled it horribly I felt. I had conversation back then. At work now and not gonna go thru it all. But instances like that. Dismissing PP as an "establishment" when they support Clinton. All male staff, and other issues like talking to Repugs to try for their voting, stating women's issues are wedge issue and put them to the side.

As a baby boomer woman and a long time feminist I can tell you right now that there are more sexist male baby boomers than there are sexist male millennials. Instead of recognizing that fact and celebrating the progress that has been made the Hillary campaign is trying to destroy that progress merely to elect her. This tactic and the race baiting by her campaign will be long remembered by a lot of us Sanders Democrats. This cynical campaign tactic is doing nothing but burning bridges. The Hillary campaign is the most dishonorable Democratic primary campaign I've ever seen and I've seen a lot of them.
