(58,785 posts)the majority of the popular vote should be elected?
Why? Because that doesn't suit Bernie, or you?
Do you believe in government OF, BY, and FOR the people, Lizzie? We're talking about of and by right now.
If you do, what the hell are you doing?

(58,785 posts)Have to respect an honest answer and am now very curious. Most people say they do without ever really considering it, like religion. People who genuinely believe our democratic republic should be replaced with another, and say so, are rare and genuinely interesting. Will you talk about it? I won't say anything bad.

(13,877 posts)1) not socialism...being defined as everyone paying in something not based on the circumstances they are paid out.
2) Which should be cut or just thrown out
3) Even private insurance is inherently socialist. I pay in for 30 years and have no claims. At the same time, someone can have paid in for a few months, have an accident that costs, oh, 5 figures.
And I fail to see the humor here.
I'm sure you'll find the time to answer.

BTW...I'm all in for Bernie.

(28,762 posts)Social Security; Medicare-Medicaid; Peace Corps; unemployment insurance; welfare (for the poor and corporate); civil rights; student grant and loan programs; safety laws (OSHA); environmental laws; prevailing wage laws; right to collective bargaining (which brought about paid medical insurance, paid vacations, pensions, etc.); workers compensation; Marshall Plan; flood-disaster insurance; School Lunch Program; womens rights.
Maybe the Fair Labor Standards Act, which established a minimum wage, instituted child labor laws, and set up time-and-a-half pay for over a 40-hour week.
Or maybe FHA-HUD with its public housing, urban renewal and 44 million residential homes (before WWII almost 70 percent of our nation were renters; by the 1970s this had been reversed). And farm-conservation subsidies USDA programs, Farmers Home Administration (the bankers didnt want to make rural loans), small flood-control lakes, rural water districts, rural electricity (REA).
The Socialist GI Bill was passed, which the Republicans at the time bitterly opposed. They were salivating over millions of returning veterans to hire as cheap labor. More than 8 million have used college benefits, creating millions of entrepreneurs; most of us had never dreamed of college. For the unemployed GI, there was $20 a week for 52 weeks to help get started (a lot of money in those days). The Veterans Administration provided more than 2 million home loans.
Or maybe you would like to do away with the creation of the Socialist FDIC and FSLIC, insuring their deposits, and saved Wall Street with the establishment of the Securities Exchange Commission.
Tell us rjsquirrel how bad Socialism is.

(51,907 posts)You will probably be wiped out in the next financial collapse, as were so many in 2008. And you will deserve it. Social Security is solvent for 70 years. FICA tax was raised in 1983 for the purpose of building a surplus to deal with baby boomers.
Taxation is great. Our most prosperous years were under a 90% top marginal rate. Thankfully, the interstate highway system is mostly complete. If it were up to people like you, we'd never be able to duplicate it.

That damn Jonas Salk was such an idiot. If he hadn't made billions off of his vaccine, I'm sure he wouldn't have bothered with the research. Same for Alexander Fleming and Banting and Best. And that accounts for the three greatest medical innovations of the 20th century.

I don't remember all of them but in states like Washington, where Bernie won by 40%, that is he got 72.6% of the votes to Hillary's 29.2%. . . .. They gave him ZERO votes.. And there were a number of states like that. Win by 40% and get ZERO votes. Yea, that's an accurate count.

(651 posts)The fact that you essentially equate left wing critiques with right wing critiques is telling. Telling that you see no difference (qualitatively, factually, morally), and telling that you think the left's critiques should be brushed off.
I support Sanders, but I am not a "Bernie supporter" like you support Clinton. No hero worship or personality politics for me, pure projection on your part. He supports policies that benefit me, have proven to work, has a much better record and isn't corrupt. He also is far more trusted, liked, and polls much better versus Trump. I support him for these reasons, but he is a means towards an end. You Clinton supporters see her much more as an end, and most of you are well to the right of your party and even the general public on the issues. You also could give a damn about corruption. Brush these things off all you want, you're the ones heading for the cliff. I just won't let you take me down with you.

(5,815 posts)So Costco had a deal last summer. Two tower fans - one small, one big - for about $40, and I set the big one up in front of the screen door. But the neatest thing is, it has a remote control!
A fan. With a remote control. Like, what? You can make it rotate and everything without ever getting up.
One of my dream appliances. I'd put it up there with the patio propane fire table. Good for chilly Bay Area nights when you're entertaining friends.
But still, a tower fan with a full remote function? Where has it been all my life?
As for your post.
That's unflattering resolution. Seriously. She doesn't look that messed up in person. At least aim for a high quality gif when trying to recycle an image and message from the opponent she spent a year smearing in the most vile ways last time around.
You'd think Brock could afford a good graphics person, what will all that plutocrat PAC money pouring in.

(47 posts)Who will fail in the general election. I look forward to ya'll blaming people who saw through her nonsense and voted with their heart not for a party like you did in 2000. Just like then, instead of blaming a candidate for running to the right you'll blame the voters who made a choice and decided not to put up with it.
