POLITICAL POLLING IS MEANINGLESS?

According to a report from the Pew Research Center, only about 9 percent of Americans answer the phone and respond to opinion polls. When response rates fall this low, polls tell us less about public opinion than about who answers the phone.
It gets worse. Do Democratic and Republican voters have, on average, the same numbers of phones? If Republicans have more phones than Democrats, they're more likely to be represented in telephone polls (and, of course, vice versa).

But I can't take that risk since there are so few chances that's who is actually calling :p

Especially in places like Ohio. Those people are getting CLOBBERED from both sides with ads, signs, door knocks, phone calls, etc.. Eventually people get so sick of it all they start to tune it all out. And when that happens these polls start to tread into the territory of diminishing returns. In other words, the accuracy starts to really suffer.

election, at least in Presidential elections and many others too because you have to wait until campaigning has happened, until people are truly engaged, until people have truly decided, etc.
