2016 Postmortem

According to my friend Phil Munger, who was a delegate,
"This afternoon, Alaska's Democratic Party Convention became the first in the USA to endorse Sen. Bernie Sanders by acclamation."
Gotta love Alaska Democrats.

(46,436 posts)I think Alaska's Democrats are maybe more progressive than some other states' because we've been under the thumb of the Republican majority and Big Oil for so many years. It makes us feisty.
By the way, NV, I'm going to have some cool pics from Kotzebue to share with the photo group in the next few days. Today I got some nice shots of a little fox nibbling on a caribou carcass. You don't see that everyday. . We'll be flying back to Anch in the morning.

(1,122 posts)In 2008, Barack Obama was perceived the more liberal Democrat.
Here in 2016, Bernie Sanders is perceived the more liberal Democrat.
Just go over the states a 2008 Obama and a 2016 Bernie have carriedas of 05.15.2016and we know which ones are truly impressive.
On the list (so far): Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, Minnesota, Nebraska, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
I would like to add my home state, Michigan, because Obama was not on the ballot in my state; it violated DNC rules by holding its primary in January, and not all Democratic candidates were on the ballot.
The states which do not impress (both in 2008 and 2016 for Hillary Clinton): Arizona, Arkansas, *Florida, Massachusetts, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas.
Massachusetts, I must say, is the biggest disappointment. Given what was written by Thomas Frank, in his new book, Listen Liberal, that does not surprise me.

(46,436 posts)she worked very closely with the legislative Democrats and was a thorn in the side of establishment Republicans and the Big Oil guys. That's why she was so popular here and why "maverick" McCain was convinced that she would be a good fit. We didn't vote for her, of course, but I admired her spunk. Little did we know that she would lose her mind once she was put out on the national stage. She might have been nuts all along, but she concealed it well.

(46,436 posts)Eight stars of gold on a field of blue,
Alaska's flag, may it mean to you,
The blue of the sea, the evening sky,
The mountain lakes and the flowers nearby,
The gold of the early sourdough's dreams,
The precious gold of the hills and streams,
The brilliant stars in the northern sky,
The "Bear," the "Dipper," and shining high,
The great North Star with its steady light,
O'er land and sea a beacon bright,
Alaska's flag to Alaskans dear,
The simple flag of a last frontier.
A Native lad chose the Dipper's stars
For Alaska's flag that there be no bars
Among our culture. Let it be known
Through years the Native's past has grown
To share life's treasures, hand in hand,
To keep Alaska our Great-Land;
We love the northern midnight sky,
The mountains, lakes and streams nearby.
The great North Star with its steady light
Will guide all cultures, clear and bright,
With nature's flag to Alaskans dear,
The simple flag of the last frontier.
I like it much better than Oh Say Can You See.

(10,476 posts)Hillary holds the battleground states and is competitive in traditionally red states.
You have to realize by now that Sanders will not and can not be the nominee, right? If not, please change your avatar.
