At The Nevada Democratic Convention
The Bernie or Bust movement has grown now that Bernie Sanders supporters are outraged over the chaos at the Nevada Democratic Convention on Saturday. Despite having less support during the convention, Hillary Clinton was awarded more delegates. The decision caused Bernie supporters to become outraged as they believe the Nevada voters are victims of election suppression.
It turns out that Bernie Sanders actually had more support at the convention than Hillary Clinton. However, the convention did not count 58 delegates for Sanders because they said they did not switch their party affiliation to Democrat in time for the convention. The delegates had until May 1 to become Democrats, but at the Nevada Democratic Convention, 58 out of the 64 contested delegates for Sanders could not be found as registered and were stricken from the count. Due to that issue, Hillary Clinton was able to take Nevada by 33 votes.
(snip)
Sanders supporters are angry because they claim the convention rules were changed literally at the convention in order to purposefully deny certain delegates from voting in order to ensure that Clinton took the majority of delegates. Then, when the underdogs demanded a recount of the delegates because they believed they were being cheated, that request was denied as well.
When taking a vote about the temporary rule change, many in attendance say that the nays were heard just as clearly as the ayes. In that case, the rules state that when a majority is not clear, the convention has to revote by vote of division of assembly. This means the convention attendees would cast their vote by standing on whichever side of the room they agreed with. According to Heavy, this was not done, and the temporary rules were adopted even though there were reportedly more Bernie Sanders supporters in attendance and a nay vote is what should have been expected. Many were upset about the vote and said that it was taken so early in the day that many delegates were still in line and hadnt even been allowed inside yet.
The controversial vote was placed to decide if the Nevada Democratic Convention would change the caucus rules in Hillary Clintons favor. The Nevada Caucus is run in two rounds. The first round of the Nevada Caucus was won by Clinton. However, the second round of voting happens at the county level, where the chosen delegates have to show up again for their candidate. Bernie Sanders won that second tier hands down because not enough of Clintons delegates showed up. The vote on Saturday was to only count delegates from the first tier in a clear attempt to take the win back for Bernie Sanders and upset his entire voting base.
The Nevada Democratic Convention turned into a huge Bernie or Bust protest when, after 16 hours of tension between the Bernie Sanders supporters and the Hillary Clinton supporters, a demand for a recount was shut down without a clear vote again. Sanders supporters claim that when a vote was taken about recounting the votes from earlier, a decision to not recount was made before the nay votes could even be heard.
Even though there were clearly more Sanders supporters at the convention Clinton was awarded 20 delegates to head to Philadelphia in July while Sanders was given only 15 delegates. It was obvious from the reaction of the delegates that the Hillary Clinton win was not expected, nor was it agreed upon. As Bernie Sanders supporters began to chant about a recount, the lights inside the room were turned down and the volume on the PA system was turned up in an effort to drown out the fury of the angry crowd.
(snip)
The day after the chaotic Nevada Democratic Convention has left Bernie Sanders supporters very upset. The Bernie or Bust movement is continuing to gain traction as more and more voters feel like there is a massive amount of election fraud happening and no way to stop it. There have even been calls on President Barack Obama to do something about the alleged cheating that has happened so much during the Democratic primary.
Watch the video below of the unrest on Saturday night and tell us what you think will happen during the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia in July.

(47,803 posts)Yea that's going to generate enthusiasm and turnout in November.
As the totally unexpected rise of Trump has proven, you ignore the potential closeness of the election at your peril.
Dismissing a large chunk of what should be her voters in Nov. is not very smart.

(1,473 posts)You all pretend that all 40% of Bernie's supporters are fanatical, unreasonable people like these fools who caused the Convention to end early by acting like snotty children, and then blamed the DNC for taking the vote at that point time when the venue told them to leave due to the chaos created by Bernie's supporters
We realize a great many of Sanders supporters think that they're special and all the rules should be changed for them, from super delegates to closed primaries , ignoring how did yourselves in by not reading the laws and following them... Of course that's the DNC and everybody trying to get these paranoid people
This group of people that has ruined Sanders campaign for him
Way to go!

I wasn't there but from the objective reports it seems like the "Establishment" figures who ran it fanned the flames rather than encouraged an environment of reasonable process.

(68,595 posts)Bernie overturned the Nevada primary and disenfranchised voters in April. Hillary won Nevada not Sanders...so the cheating Sanders supporters were stopped and as another poster noted they have a sad...oh well. What you did in April was wrong...karma paid you a visit.

(19,926 posts)Seriously, they think they can lure Bernie supporters with:
Caring about election discrepancies is just sour grapes.
You just want to take your ball and go home.
Bernie needs to drop out.
And someone just tried to make my post about a man assaulting a woman racist.
I'm not ever voting for Hillary, but they better think twice about their caucus behavior and attitudes towards Bernie supporters in swing states if they think Hillary is going to be in the GE.

(6,119 posts)All they think they need to do is cozy up to the Drumph hating Republicons and they will have it made. If her campaign does manage to survive the primary process and she gets the nomination, her choice of running mate will tell us all we need to know about whose votes she'll be courting in the Fall.
What's funny and stupid on her part is that those "Sensible Republicans" she will be going after dislike her even more than we do.

(19,926 posts)Except when a Bernie supporter criticizes Hillary, then they bring up the right wing attacks and claim that's what we are doing.
It's all hypocrisy and projection. That's all they got. At least their smears have quieted down somewhat. But they still don't talk issues.

(13,340 posts)Lots of my friends are Bernie supporters. None are Bernie or Busters. My only encounters with that species are online, and I've coem to the conclusion that they ar outcome-basec thinkers. They've already decidd that the only way Bernie could lose is if he was cheated, and so they see cheating everywhere and are immune to actual facts, or even their own supposed primciples.
cui bono
(19,926 posts)There's no issue discussions, just smearing a man who has fought for the people and their equality his entire adult life. I've never seen anything like it.
As to the cheating and voter disenfranchisement, are you really okay with the way things have gone this primary? Put aside your candidate preference, if you can, and look at it objectively. Do you think it's okay that 120,000 voters all of a sudden were not registered as Dems anymore in Brooklyn? Do you think it's okay to decide a presidential primary with a coin toss? Do you think it's okay to keep a caucus going for 14 hours in order to bring in more of your people and have others leave? Do you think it's okay that there is such a discrepancy in the exit polls with the election results? Do you think it's okay that rules are changed last minute and recounts are not allowed and that it is all done in a biased manner?
If you really do not have a problem with the erosion of democracy and the people not having a voice then so be it, but there's nothing more to discuss. If you do have a problem with this then why do you diss the people who are standing up for a fair election where the people are heard?

(58,369 posts)(something which apparently even Schultz is afraid of having in her own primary,) her entropy fostering of closed primaries, Roberta's dictatorial play in the Nevada Convention, the early line up of super-delegates committing before the first debate was even held and the smearing of Bernie just to name a few items have done more than anything to feed anti-Hillary sentiments which in turn will enable Trump.
