2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe Obama Team just busted my son!
I work from home, so luckily I was there to answer the knock at my door.
It looked to be a mother/daughter canvassing team.
"Oh" I said, "Hello, we already voted. Three of us Coexist, Coexist Jr. and Coexist III".
"Thank you", mama canvasser said. "This election is so close. Wait? Three of you? I only have Coexist III on my list."
Then it dawned on me. I brought Coexist Jr. with me on the first day of early voting. I took Coexist IIIs word that he would. And, President Obama's crack team knew he didn't follow through, before I did. How awesome is that. They already crossed me and my daughter off of their list, and were ensuring III got to the polls.
Identify. Narrow. Update. Follow Up. GOTV.
They are an awesome machine.
... and don't worry, I already text Coexist III about not voting yet - I'm on it until he shows me his sticker!

I held my adult daughters birthday money hostage to make sure she registered and voted. She lives in Germany, but just prior to moving there she lived in California. Since I live in Louisiana, she became a legal resident here before going to Germany, but 'forgot' to register to vote in this state. In early summer I started harassing her about getting registered, and refused to send her birthday money ($1000) to her until she did. And it worked! She sent me proof that she registered and sent in her absentee vote!
My girl was born a Democrat and she's a fabulous young woman, but sometimes she gets too bogged down in her work. Hopefully, when our kids our older they will realize how important this is! OBAMA 2012!

(3,231 posts)I almost didn't vote because I screwed up my registration form (wrong name, needed my maiden) but my husband got on me about the Senate race (Montana I didn't think my vote would matter for president, but oh shit that senate race is really close) so I called the office and they were so nice and told me to do it all online - it's not anonymous but I don't care. I voted!

(2,795 posts)Even though my neighbors have a prominent Obama sign, Obama canvasser saw me getting out of my car next door and approached me asking where they could find one of them (who happens to be their youngest son-age 19) to make sure he votes! I guess she noticed my Obama cap and felt comfortable showing me his name on her list.
I managed to get a registered Repub friend who has voted Dem since Clinton to the polls yesterday. She can't drive due to a disability. Every Dem I know here is doing all they can to take people who would otherwise not vote to the polls.

(135,425 posts)I gave shelter to a relative who was a registered Republican when he had "job issues." He used this address, though he's gone now, but vestiges remain...like when the Republicans send him cards saying "You didn't vote this year, that year and the other year, and you HAVE to vote now or else!"
Thing is, he's not registered anywhere anymore. Hasn't been for quite a few years.
They send him some really stupid and hateful shit. It's a small window into how they operate. I'm not inclined to help them save money, so I don't tip them off that they're preaching to a choir that is determined to sing louder than they can bullshit.
