2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumLol The right and the M$M(same thing really.) are acting like fridays Job figures matter
As if we dont already know that no matter how good or bad they are , reception is going to be relatively the same .
Good numbers= huge conspiracies ,jobs truther movement , chicago guys will do anything to win blah blah not good enough
Bad numbers =m$m will say it will cost obama the election just like they said it will blunt obama's momentum coming out of the conventions.
Guess what it wont make a difference .
We are going to win this thing, make some calls today and get out the vote !!!!!

(1,828 posts)Seriously, I think the MSM and the crap pollsters are hoping desperately for an excuse as to why they've been so terrible this election season. Right now, they'll be ok using Sandy, but I think if jobs numbers are good, they can all rewrite their coverage afterward into, 'It all started to change with Sandy, then the jobs numbers sealed it! But we were right before that! Really! We were!"

(19,458 posts)Every time we have a major storm or disaster, it leads to BIG jump in unemployment claims. Would the timing be to soon to see that in the reports? Because it will next month, for sure. There will be a big jump in claims probably today and yesterday due to people being unable to work.
Watch for it. The republicans never mention that, but instead will attack the numbers as a whole. If it shows up already, hopefully the MSM will actually get it right.

(53 posts)Sandy stopped the whole "Romney SURGE!!!!!" bullshit narrative that was failing to gain legitimate traction to begin with, especially since Romney sucked so hard in that last debate that no one was buying it.
If numbers are bad, the media narrative will be "Will the public take frustration over jobs out on President Obama at the polls?"
If they stay the same or only improve slightly, expect "Economy still showing sluggish signs of recovery, as voters head to the polls uncertain of U.S. economic future."
And if it's a pretty decent improvement, expect just a passing mention followed by condescending and smarmy lines like "Well, no one honestly expects this one jobs report to matter one way or the other in regards to the outcome of the election." Which is somewhat true, because President Obama will win regardless... but at the same time you can tell that guys like Toadie are just dying to whomp Obama over the head with the numbers if they suck in order to drive their Rafalca race. Or maybe we'll get more Welch/Trump "Jobs Truther" insanity like you mentioned... which will only continue to make republicans and Romney look like the fools that they are.
