2016 Postmortem

It's over. He thought he had a few minutes left to get the ball close enough to the end zone for a Hail Mary with a big assist from the media, but Sandy took care of that. Sacked in the backfield and a fumble to boot!
It's less than a week to the election, and that week is going to be a smorgasbord of President Obama taking care of business while Rmoney gets in the way of the relief efforts. Bad optics for Rmoney. Great optics for President Obama.
Any planned October surprise by the Rs will look transparently political, that is, if it even has enough to it to fight through what is going to be non-stop FOCUS on Sandy, and non-stop focus on Sandy equals non-stop focus on Commander-in-Chief Obama.
So, it's all over but the counting, the concession and seeing low long President Obama's coattails are in the Congressional races.

(1,134 posts)to West Palm TV station stating Dems are 'cleaning their clock' so far in voting... Yep. GOP memo.
This is backed up by the early voting stats from FL which ARE running ahead of 2008...

(5,420 posts)Still not good for them but purposely leaked (if true) is less fantastic than if it was something they didn't intend to leak.

(320 posts)RCP will be busy trying to cull go-nowhere articles about how Romney's headed for a landslide victory because Rasmussen.
Can't wait for the election to be finally over.

(4,310 posts)new Obama term is going to look like with Reps being forced by a mandate
to work WITH the president. We got this folks.
Watching Romney refuse to answer the FEMA question also showed America what a secretive
Romney presidency will look like. Big F**king mistake on his part.
Not to be cocky still must GOTV.

Can't let it happen folks! Keep pushing to the end. We need a big margin to stop them from trying to steal it again.

(10,336 posts)enough of it, and he's got a job to do. He gave more than appropriate respect to President Obama, and went beyond by sticking a knife in Romney's back. And, I would say, twisting it. It was perfect in it's poignancy (even if it was at least partially motivated by ambition and of course he never misses an opportunity). The whole FEMA issue just served to display in real life just exactly what the deal is. The contrast wasn't just striking, it was like a blunt instrument to the head.

(4,310 posts)by how he takes care of NJ. through the recovery process. It's apparent he
wants to work with a president that has the skills, professionalism and vision
to build a NJ prepared for the 21st century. Christie knows that can only happen
with Obama in office. When 2016 rolls around Christie wants to be seen as a success
story. Besides, if Romney is elected he'll be the incumbent in 2016 leaving Christie out
of consideration. Sorry to sound so cynical but "politics makes strange bedfellows"
applies here.

(13,485 posts)I have no intention of thinking that when the vote is done that it's over for the election. The Repugs are determined to smash the party any way possible and I don't think cooperation is in the cards for them.
I hope I'm wrong.

That "this is what a real president should do" crap--as if that's the best use of a POTUS' time, and as if Romney would have been toting boxes to a truck if the cameras hadn't been there. Who falls for that crap?

(5,815 posts)to figure out what to do NOW?? I imagine they had a game plan for the last week of the campaign and apparently Sandy had other things in mind. So now Romney is trying desperately to figure out what they can do that does not appear transparently opportunistic. They have already bungled the big "relief rally" and their $5,000 buy at Wal-Mart is being talked about and how that is exactly the opposite of what the Red Cross needs. Now he is out in Florida giving his stump speech, but it is lackluster and with no passion.
I imagine we'll be treated to an ever evolving strategy by Romney since apparently they were caught flat footed by the storm and never factored that kind of October surprise into their plans.

(5,815 posts)game plans. Can you imagine the conversations that are taking place behind closed doors about THAT turn of events? Anyone with doubts about Chris' plans for 2016????
