O’Donnell slams Des Moines Register endorsement of Mitt as ‘magical thinking’

MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell accused The Des Moines Register of “adopting Mitt Romney’s magical thinking” by endorsing the Republican candidate for president.

In the Rewrite segment on Tuesday’s edition of The Last Word, he called their decision one of the “most embarrassing endorsements in the history of that newspaper.”

His bone to pick with the Iowa paper’s editorial board revolved around how they argued the case for Romney, not their specific choice of candidate. It’s “not because they chose Romney,” O’Donnell said. “Not because they chose a Republican, but because they gave absolutely no rational reason for it.”

The Register justified its entire endorsement on the basis of consumer confidence.

This was all just the paper being pissy about being told not to publish the call from the president - there's no other rational basis for this switch.
I hear Bill Clinton is penning a response to the Register for this week, BTW

Whether that was just what you'd expect from a Romney supporting board, or really was a middle-finger at the publisher, I'm not quite sure.

We've heard it's Gannet who decided but the board is taking the heat.

It generated a lot of hostile responses on here for some reason, mostly questioning why we should care about it. Apparently I wasn't the only one who felt compelled to mention it.
