Manatee commissioner Hayes said to cause disturbance at polls

Another Republican politician behaving badly...

<snip>

Poll workers called 911 to report that Manatee County Commissioner Donna Hayes created a disturbance during early voting Sunday, while campaigning for her son in Deltona.

When they confronted Hayes to get her to stop, Volusia County elections officials say she became aggressive, insulted them and told them that "poll workers are a joke" and that she outranked them.

Hayes denied making the comments, and said the accusations are "politically motivated."

The clash occurred at the Deltona Library, where elections officials say they had received several complaints that Hayes was jumping in front of cars and dropping pamphlets through open windows as they drove into the parking lot while campaigning for her son, Rich Gailey, who is a candidate for Volusia County Council.

Because we all know that cutting off traffic, throwing pamphlets into windows, and flaunting "out-rank" at people is a sure fire way to win over voters. DERP!

That is why the Republicans are so adamant about controlling state governorships. When you control state government you control the electoral system. The Republican Governor's Association exists for no other reason than voter suppression and outright electoral fraud.

Canada has one of the most honest and reliable electoral systems in the world because neither Federal nor Provincial ministers can manipulate the election rules. In addition the election is financed by the Federal government but run by an independent electoral commission called Elections Canada.

Poll workers are paid for their time and are under strict rules regarding what they can or cannot say to voters. All votes are paper ballot except in the larger urban centers in Ontario.

Also all ballots have a tear off strip on the ballot with the vote number on it which is the same number on the ballot. This tear off verification strip is removed from the ballot and the number recorded by the voter's name in their presence. The strip is then put in an envelope and matched up with the ballot when it is counted. Any ballot without a verification strip is investigated not thrown out.

Spoiled ballots follow the same rules as most systems in democratic countries, X only in one box, no additional writing on the ballot and if a mistake is made by the voter and corrected it must be signed and witnessed by the electoral officer in charge of the voting location in the presence of the voter.

And yes, picture id is required but in the absence of that, a proof of residence in the form of a utility bill with your name on it is sufficient as long as you have your birth certificate or SIN card.
