2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDevastating NBC election poll...
Acknowledging that polls are a transitory snapshot of opinions and that the political landscape has been very fluid this year, the new Marist Poll released early today in the leadup to tomorrow's Super Tuesday Primaries has a ton of bad news for the Republican Party:
President's Approval Rating at 50% (Net +5)
Mitt Romney's Approval Rating at 28% (Net -11)
How GOP Nominating Process has affected Voters' Views of Party
More Favorable: 12%
Less Favorable: 40%
No Impact: 47%
Head to Head Matchups have Obama at 50% or more against all opponents
Obama 50% Romney 44%
Obama 50% Paul 42%
Obama 53% Santorum 39%
Obama 54% Gingrich 37%
Preference for Control of Congress
Republican: 41%
Democratic: 46%
...and nobody thinks the GOP nomination is going to get wrapped up anytime soon.

Can't go lower than "worst." Except in Worcestershire.

If this rate continues, landslide would not be the word they would use.

A) Polls are only as reliable as the honesty of the person who pays for them;
B) The game is rigged. Anybody else wondering if these RWNJ's are really that Crazy (that doesn't make Sense when one considers the masterful RWNJ messaging capabilities and the BS "they" have Already sold us for the past 50 Years) or do they Already know Electronic Voting Will Favor Them in November?
Remember MSM is Already calling the R Primary races after Only 1% of the results are reported? Watch on Super Tues. Don't rely on the BS they feed us about "Exit Polling". Listen to the different MSM Entertainment Hosts-They All use the Same polling data-it's just worded differently. Less than .01% of voter's are exampled in Exit Polling. The game IS Rigged and WE have our work cut out for us.

"...the Senate is looking more positive for us Dems (NE and ME), and the House will surely benefit from the "coat tail" effect."

(37,152 posts)...another devastating step with Citizens United to make sure Democracy stayed dead.
You bet Republicans will try to steal this election - their voter suppression measures could disenfranchise at least half a million people, and that's not counting rigged machines.
liberalmike27
(2,479 posts)Bush was down about 10 percent when he first got into the race, and look what happened there--they made it close enough to steal.
And how? The MSM, as you mention was wildly critical of Gore, even attacking an eye-roll after Bush said something verifiably wrong, a complete lie. Believe you me. When the die is cast, when that republican drifts into the slot, they are going to be pounding Obama like never before. They'll make it close.
It is exactly why I don't think democrats should get cute and try to vote for Gingrich, or Santorum. They might win, with the media's help.
One other interesting thing to note--Ron Paul is second in a head-to-head with Obama, over Gingrich, AND Santorum. Yet they continue to reject him, screw him out of delegates, and spurn him.

(292 posts)Paul was actually going to get my vote until (supposedly) he is going to team up with Romney.
I wonder how many people on here are dreading voting for Obama a second time (like me) after he signed NDAA. If we vote with our party, regardless of their actions, how are we any better than anyone else.
The fact that EVERYONE left and right is ignoring him is actually one of the many (mixed bag of) reasons I like him. Precisely because the establishment doesn't.
Now, if he ran as Obama's VP, or surgically donated his spine to Obama... I'd vote for that!

(221 posts)This is not a sarcastic question. I look at the posts on DU and I think, yes we all want to win and yes, we probably all see positive signs that we will likely win; but does being overconfident accomplish ANYTHING besides convincing Democrats that it's in the bag and to ease up on the pedal?
I remember this same trend in 2004 with Kerry-Bush, when people were basically guaranteeing that there was no way Shrub would be in office in February 2005 based on his poll #'s, the war, etc. It's not your post specifically but many posts I've seen in the last few months in general. I don't see what basically guaranteeing a victory at this point is accomplishing besides allowing people to let their guard down (even if you put a small disclaimer at the bottom that says "Don't let your guard down."

(7,403 posts)Once MSM has milked the horserace aspect of the Republican primary for all it is worth they will turn their guns on Obama in an attempt to make the general election a horserace. That is not a prediction, that is a fact based on earlier elections. Obama is probably close to his high water mark. His meeting with Israeli leaders this week will be the start of the negative coverage on Obama. You heard it here first.
