2016 Postmortem

About Trump. Shortly after Trump was declared the winner last night, Warren let loose with a series of tweets. From Talking Points Memo:
.@realDonaldTrump is now the leader of the @GOP. It's real - he is one step away from the White House.
Elizabeth Warren (@elizabethforma) May 4, 2016
Heres what else is real: @realDonaldTrump has built his campaign on racism, sexism, and xenophobia.
Elizabeth Warren (@elizabethforma) May 4, 2016
There's more enthusiasm for @realDonaldTrump among leaders of the KKK than leaders of the political party he now controls.
Elizabeth Warren (@elizabethforma) May 4, 2016
.@realDonaldTrump incites supporters to violence, praises Putin, and is "cool with being called an authoritarian."
Elizabeth Warren (@elizabethforma) May 4, 2016
.@realDonaldTrump attacks vets like @SenJohnMcCain who were captured & puts our servicemembers at risk by cheerleading illegal torture.
Elizabeth Warren (@elizabethforma) May 4, 2016
And @realDonaldTrump puts out out contradictory & nonsensical national security ideas one expert called "incoherent" & "truly bizarre."
Elizabeth Warren (@elizabethforma) May 4, 2016
What happens next will test the character for all of us Republican, Democrat, and Independent.
Elizabeth Warren (@elizabethforma) May 4, 2016
It will determine whether we move forward as one nation or splinter at the hands of one man's narcissism and divisiveness.
Elizabeth Warren (@elizabethforma) May 4, 2016
I'm going to fight my heart out to make sure @realDonaldTrumps toxic stew of hatred & insecurity never reaches the White House.

(146,331 posts)So will Obama. So will Bernie Sanders, actually. The GE campaign is going to be epic.
The fight against Trump will flip many seats in the Senate and House as well. November is going to be a very good month, indeed.

(146,331 posts)That the thread ballooned into something else was somewhat surprising. But, it's from Monday, after all. New day, new news, new posts.

And If I'm upset, it's because tRump is the rethug's nominee.

(6,551 posts)We are certainly united in our upset about Trump.
But keep your fork in the drawer, please.

(40,416 posts)He is one of the thoughtful and rational folks on this board. I may disagree with him on candidate choice, but I do not agree with any personal attacks on him.
Argue the political position, not the person.
(That's what has gone wrong here.)
I have your back, MM. Even though I support Bernie.

(11,646 posts)I always thought Clinton would pick strategically to secure the Hispanic vote, but Trump does that for her all on his own. Warren would go a long way toward galvanizing the party and given her hatred of all things Trump she may be willing.

(10,164 posts)For Warren to get on board with the oligarchy candidate would be genuinely revolting (and a waste of her influence in a ceremonial position).
jcgoldie
(11,646 posts)Not so much the oligarchy stuff. Still the stakes are high enough its maybe worth playing your best cards even if they could be more useful later.
Lizzie Poppet
(10,164 posts)Warren might indeed be enough to get Clinton past Trump in the GE (although personally, I don't think anything can do that), and there's always the possibility that a GOP-dominated Congress will impeach and convince Clinton...hello President Warren. But I'd have to question her commitment to progressive policies if she agreed to join with a corporatist...
jcgoldie
(11,646 posts)She thinks there's more at stake and more to being a progressive than just being anti corporation.

(10,493 posts)Warren has everything going for her. Clinton had the FBI and attempted to run state business through an unsecured server in her house. I'm having a hard time understanding how I, as a democrat, could ever justify the high ground in my area again (where we have had significant issues with local corruption, OMA, graft, FOIA, the list goes on), when we are propping up a candidate like Clinton. Seriously, this is a legitimate concern as we face a new round of local elections.
jcgoldie
(11,646 posts)I'm pretty sure if Elizabeth Warren, who knows Clinton well, agreed with most of the nonsense anti-Clinton vitriol that gets passed around here on DU, she would have endorsed Sanders a long time ago.

(29,279 posts)DWS doesn't have to concede the party to Bernie, who is more of an outsider then Warren.
I doubt this, just quizzically exploring...

We will see some fireworks exploding around her soon. For the good of the party, we should all hope it's before the convention, because beating Bernie is nowhere near as important as beating tRump, wouldn't you agree?

(244 posts)Oil & Water. Obviously it would help Hillary in courting Bernie supporters since they are the Progressive wing but i fail to understand how a VP would help Warren since it reduces her power.
And techincally, it would be more ideal for Hillary to remove Warren from the Senate so she can have an easier time with making good on her big bank deals, and other big contributions bribes she has been receiving without getting Warren's endless criticisms towards her about it.
Elizabeth Warren is way too smart to be marginalized. She has always hinted during the earlier primaries that she was for Bernie. To no surprise.

(9,497 posts)the presidential nominee?
jcgoldie
(11,646 posts)But she seems pretty vehemently anti-Trump which is understandable. Maybe when the opposition picks a racist demagogue who some would argue threatens the republic it changes the calculus that's all I'm saying.
