2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumLet's be clear, regardless of the outcome tonight,
the primary is still not going to be over.
To try to pivot to the General Election is now, and will be, fundamentally undemocratic.

(2,450 posts)Every eligible American voter is entitled to an opportunity to cast their vote and make their voice heard. Every candidate has the right to choose when to stop running, up until after the convention.
And..
It ain't over until it's over.
hack89
(39,171 posts)And Bernie can keep running. Hillary is still the nominee regardless.

(1,884 posts)The only issue Hillary supporters have is Bernie running.
malokvale77
(4,879 posts)She is no where near the required number of pledged delegates to clinch. It's going to take a whole lot of manipulation to come to that conclusion.
hack89
(39,171 posts)They will vote en masse for the candidate with the most pledged delegates. They will respect the will of the voters.
malokvale77
(4,879 posts)I have no doubt that the lobbyist super delegates will stick with the candidate that benefits them most.
John Podesta is a super delegate. I'm sure he will stay with Hillary.
Keep pretending this is a democracy.

(39,171 posts)Too many blow out victories in big states.
malokvale77
(4,879 posts)Her blowouts are in red states. I live in one. We haven't had an honest election here since before Bush beat Richards.
PS: The Clinton's along with another sellout (Bob Bullock) sold Texas Democrats out way back then.
hack89
(39,171 posts)Hence Bernie's troubles there.
malokvale77
(4,879 posts)You think black people voted for George W Bush?
Please don't reply to me with any more of your bullshit.
hack89
(39,171 posts)they voted for the real Democrat - Hillary.
Why are you babbling about Bush?
malokvale77
(4,879 posts)when the Bush's along with President Clinton and Democratic sellout Bob Bullock allowed the defeat of Ann Richards (the most popular Governor in Texas history).
They weren't counted (as in not allowed) then, just as they aren't counted now.
Texas was the test bed for voter suppression. It worked so well here, it is being used as a model across the nation.
hack89
(39,171 posts)looks like they were able to vote just fine.

(4,879 posts)See if they can swing it for her in the general.

When it is down to one, lets say it was Hillary, the attention will be on Drumpf and his misogyny, which will be interesting for a brief time but it can rub people the wrong way
As Van Jones said, Drumpf can win the election no matter who he faces if liberals are complacent.

(32,727 posts)It's truly disturbing, to say the least. Whether the issue is that he's delusional or that he's surrounded by delusional / poorly informed advisors, the math is the math. This is not a good way to run a campaign or the nation.

It's over.
Well and truly over. No more "he can still win if he just gets XXX% of the vote in these states".
He can no longer secure the # of delegates needed after tonight. 100% over.

nolawarlock
(1,729 posts)It has nothing to do with being democratic. Bernie simply has such a narrow path to victory that it just looks like he's circling the drain at this point.

(13,889 posts)We should hold all the remaining primary contests and people would vote for whoever they feel best about. But you don't get to tell people what they can have conversations about just because those conversations reflect a reality that makes you feel sad. If you don't want to read discussions about the GE then don't click on them, stop demanding that everyone else conduct themselves to suit you.
