2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumPrinciples. First, do no harm.
For me, that means doing all I can to keep Republicans out of office. Nixon, Reagan, Bush. All did great harm. Next, Elect Democrats when the choice is binary, as it always is in general elections for President.
I have pledged to vote for the Democratic nominee. My role in choosing that nominee has passed. My pledge has not changed. My principles remain the same.
We do better with Democrats in the White House, and worse with Republicans. I will vote. I always vote. My principles dictate that I vote for Democrats. Outcomes matter.
That's my opinion. Thanks for reading it.

(46,179 posts)For me, that means refusing to leave the door open to neo-liberals, who harm the party, the nation, and her people.

(46,179 posts)We're discussing the primaries.
And, of course, those primaries effect the GE. So I'm going to make sure I fight for a meaningful choice in November. "First, do no harm" means making sure there is a choice that is NOT a lesser evil, but a choice FOR positive change.
Hillary Rodham Clinton does not offer that meaningful choice.

(8,352 posts)then perhaps you should have taken your own advice and voted for Sanders instead of Clinton.
She and her husband's policies and positions have harmed so many Americans from LGBT's with DOMA & DADT, to AA's & Latino's with mass incarceration and the increased drug wars, to the middle class with the repeal of Glass-Stegall and NAFTA, to civilians in the ME from Iraq and Libya, and on and on and on.
Outcomes do apparently matter more than you really realize.

(146,317 posts)The next time I vote for a presidential candidate will be in November. I will vote for the Democratic nominee. Just as I said above.

(8,352 posts)so my point still stands.
You failed your own principles and metaphor. Sorry truth hurts.

(146,317 posts)Minnesota, I did not have time to vote. Bernie won 37 to 21. Funny, isn't it? I was making sure that everyone got to vote and that their votes were counted correctly, that I didn't manage to vote. The principle of a fair caucus seemed more important.

(8,785 posts)Sanders.
I have not yet made my vote in the California primary.
I am reconsidering whether or not I would vote for Hillary Clinton in the general election.
Clinton is bad for the Democratic Party and bad for the country and lacking in character to be POTUS or CIC.
I am free to have that opinion and withhold my vote where the Party has failed to provide an acceptable choice.
I have been a faithful registered and voting Democrat since 1972.

(146,317 posts)Just as I said in the OP.

(8,785 posts)I understand why you would vote for the nominee as I have voted that way since 1972.
You think Hillary Clinton is OK; I think Hillary Clinton an aberration that is bad for the Democratic Party.
This may effect my vote for POTUS in the Fall 2016 general election. I will noit vote GOP nor third party but it is looking more likely I will withhold my vote at the top of the ticket.
Two weeks or so ago I shared your stance and my historical position; however how much I thought Hillary Clinton was the wrong person, still I could see myself angry but voting Clinton but I am moving toward withholding that vote.
Many good liberals are considering leaving the Democratic Party but I do not have any intention of following that path.
My criticisms may likely flow abundant.
I do not like neo-liberals and neo-liberal policy and I know what the terms means and how to identify.
