Top Democrats Just Joined Big Pharma to Derail Obama’s Drug Pricing Plan

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) helped co-author the letter and is pressuring other Democrats to sign onto Neal’s letter, according to the Huffington Post. However, her opposition to Obama’s initiatives may be due to financial pressure from the pharmaceutical lobby. The Center on Responsive Politics reveals that Rep. Pelosi and Rep. Neal’s top donors are from the pharmaceutical industry.

"In the current campaign cycle, Pelosi’s top donor is Express Scripts, who gave $14,000 to her campaign committee. Over the course of her career, the pharmaceutical industry ranked #17 among industries favorable to Pelosi, giving her $352,350 since 1989. Health professionals gave $1.2 million over the same time period.

Rep. Neal’s campaign finance reports paint a similar picture. In the current campaign cycle, Neal received $41,000 from Big Pharma, making the industry his third-biggest donor. Since 1989, Rep. Neal has received $435,821 from the pharmaceutical industry and $703,498 from health professionals, ranking them #6 and #3 on Neal’s top industry donation list, respectively.

Meanwhile, prescription drug prices continue their endless rise, with spending on pharmaceuticals increasing by 13 percent in 2014 alone — the highest increase in a decade. And in 2015, the Kaiser Foundation learned that nearly a quarter of the public didn’t fill a prescription in the past year due to cost reasons.

Although Obama has led the charge on many popular initiatives embraced by the majority of Americans, Democrats continue to obstruct him on some of his key policy proposals."

They are all bought and paid for! That is why I am voting for Bernie Sanders.

Prices of common Rx drugs have TRIPLED since Obama took office, and TPP will make things FAR worse.

Drugs should cost the same here that they do in the civilized countries.

Pelosi should be put on trial for corruption for taking money from drug companies. They all should be.

People are dying because they cannot afford to fill prescriptions..

This is not the first time, Pelosi's seat has been considered as one that should be 'primaried'. This is the rot, and why nothing changes.

Bernie would have to deal with these corporate democrats as he would the republicans. Thanks corporate dems.

Hillary? She would do nothing to 'deal' with it. She's made her deals too.

Bernie or bust!

"If the Democratic Party would fight as hard for the Working Class as the Republican Party fights for the Ruling Class, the Republicans would be a powerless minority party within a few election cycles.

The Democratic Party knows this, the Republican Party knows this, the Ruling Class knows this- and they've been astonishingly successful at making sure the Working Class never learns this. ~ Anonymouse
