(5,614 posts)Do you think the SoS in Ca knows what the word "recuse" means?
Demsrule86
(68,696 posts)I can't think of one. We need new rules for Bernie? Hey, I want Bernie in California because I heard a chilling tale on Make it Plain...
California has anyone and everyone on one non-presidential ballot say for the Senate (there are 32 people running). Top two winners compete in the election ...could be two GOP types or two Dems or two greens or two who knows. I shudder to think the outcome for us in that state for the Senate if the GOP had a real primary and came out in droves...while Dems stayed home. We could end up with two GOP types running for the US Senate.

(27,787 posts)After all ... she's probably one of the super delegates you need to flip too.
SusanLarson
(284 posts)The Democratic Party needs a solid conflict of interest provision prohibiting party officials from publicly or privately showing preference for any campaign. No Party official can have a position with any campaign without first stepping down.

The party aparatus yes, although DWS is a glaring study in inconsistency while she runs her hopefully losing battle in Florida. so there's that.

(13,877 posts)I watched the video of her statement.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/02/28/why-did-this-top-dnc-official-just-endorse-bernie-sanders/
"Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) announced on NBC's "Meet the Press" that she's stepping down from her post as vice chair of the Democratic National Committee, which requires her to be neutral in the primary, and is endorsing Sen. Bernie Sanders (Vt.)."
Now you can argue with the video.
CentralCoaster
(1,163 posts)Tulsi has nothing to do with California.
Demsrule86
(68,696 posts)No we don't need any such thing.
SusanLarson
(284 posts)DNC officials have shown that we indeed do because they abused their positions with the DNC to promote one candidate over another, and to deny party resources from one candidate in favor of another. There is also the strong suspicion of funneling confidential campaign voter data to a competing campaign.
Demsrule86
(68,696 posts)Oh, wait he fired one out of four...if I remember correctly. Sorry Bernie had a fair shot...there will be no investigation leading to any 'do-overs'. I have never seen a re-vote actually.
JTFrog
(14,274 posts)Oh wait....
How did that work out again?
KingFlorez
(12,689 posts)That's a ridiculous idea.
SusanLarson
(284 posts)Not at all for all the same reasons we require judges to recuse themselves when they might not be neutral in a case they are hearing, to ensure that the party is impartial and not partisan. When you have state party officials with license plates stating their preference for a campaign then running the primary, and the top party official using her position to embarrass one campaign in favor of another, there is a problem that must be fixed.
KingFlorez
(12,689 posts)That makes no sense and is contradictory, because a political party is partisan in nature.
SusanLarson
(284 posts)But our nations election system should not be. Therefore when someone decides to back a campaign they should step down from any position in the party to prevent a conflict of interest.

(1,163 posts)Both parties have always been in the business of promoting preselected favorites.
Like it or not, shenanigans take place. In fact, the very creation of superdelegates was to protect chosen candidates.
Again, good or bad, it's a dynamic that can work against pure democracy.

(15,512 posts)There's probably something to be said for objectivity but since the entire current CA congressional delegation, statehouse, state congress and senate, Dem mayoral caucus and both Senators have endorsed her, save one lone mayor in Garden Grove, he might as well drop the pretense. I'm hoping California delivers the first wave of a Clinton tsunami that washes the red right out of DC and delivers a Senate and Congress to match those big baby blues.
