(1,000 posts)responding to valid, serious criticism by claiming the critics are sexist is playing a card.

(6,007 posts)Like if some guys are being loud and you tell them to keep it down. . OK
But if some ladies are and you ask them to keep it down and if you call "sexist" I call BS
If you say a male politician looks funny, like talk about Trump's hair, seems to be OK.
But if you mention anything about Hillary's looks . . . sexist, you get dumped from the thread.
On and on and on with instance after instance. If you keep playing that card, and calling everything sexist, the word will lose all it's power. That's how it goes.
Just because it's about a woman doesn't mean it's sexist.

(82,383 posts)that being a woman means you will come in for criticism a lot sooner and for a lot less. That happened to Obama too.

"The only card she has is the woman's card; she's got nothing else going," he said. "And frankly, if Hillary Clinton were a man, I don't think she'd get 5 percent..."
Trump's most recent speech. blame your lack of knowledge of a fast moving election cycle... it may even work. Then check her response "deal me in..." And again, place blame on the fast-pace of modern life.

(14,255 posts)realize that this sort of thing would happen? That's pathetic and ill-prepared. Or is hollering "VICTIM!!!!!!" the actual stupid plan?
If Hillary can't take the absolutely expected heat, she should not be campaigning.

(12,504 posts)Clearly you don't remember the Republican push back and insults on the health care plan she presented as FLOTUS, in big part because it was presented by a lowly woman. You absolutely don't think her speech in China about "Women's rights are Human Right's" didn't give her a clue?
Gawd your statement is ignorant of any facts.

(1,377 posts)That HRC and surrogates have used sexism claim on people in our own party as a means to win primary. And it was used on the very most liberal people that are about as much as you can get behind women rights as we can. So now to rest of country the claim of sexism has become a cry wolf type of thing. So if Trump says that Hillary sleep her way into office as soon as Clinton or DNC say sexism it is going to be taken less likely. Too bad that they used that tactic on people who where never sexist. When we now have to fight someone who obviously only think women are throw away brides that he upgrades when they go past 40 years old. And all they do is bleed from eyes and other orifices. Winning the primary was more important than not calling out false claims of sexism.
Sheepshank
(12,504 posts)It happens to be an amazing Plus...but she has an agenda that is more important and apparently resonated with a very, very large portion of the population.
There are very many that will not vote for her solely on gender, I don't know of any that vote for her solely because of gender.

(45,251 posts)refers to simply being a woman, as the OP suggested. Or, as Hillary put it, http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2016/04/26/clinton_to_trump_if_fighting_for_womens_health_is_playing_the_woman_card_then_deal_me_in.html

(14,255 posts)playing a card. Yelling that any criticism of Hillary, no matter what the actual facts are, is sexist - THAT is playing a card. Bringing up the EXCUSE that Hillary is a woman, when attempting to explain away some her deeds, is playing a card.
As a woman, that bullshit offends me.
Your simplistic statement is not what "playing a card" is all about. I don't know which is worse - that you understand that, or that you do not understand that.

(8,168 posts)If you didn't disdain her so much, you'd know this.
It was a response to misogyny on Trump's part.

(1,377 posts)Because through out this primary any thing said about HRC was called sexist. She started this in first debate when Sanders criticized her on taking big money from Wall Street. She said Oh it is alright for men to do it but me as women makes it wrong. This type of cry wolf bullshit has been going on entire primary. And now it is going to bite us in DNC in ass because now it allows Trump to actual say stupid shit and people just ignore it because the sexism thing was used to deflect too much.

everyone has a card...everyone is playing on what makes them unique and appealing to their constituency.
Its the most stupid statement to claim that we, as the voting public, are not permitted to draw a positive perception based on the card.

(23,421 posts)Of course people are permitted to engage in those politics.
That said, I'm not sure that Clinton ever actually articulated that someone should vote for her simply for being female.
Sheepshank
(12,504 posts)I can't deny that her female-ness is appealing to me, but I would never have voted solely on her gender. For example, Palin would have never received my vote. There is much, much more to a candidate than their gender, but in this case I am not willing to overlook gender either. It adds a check mark in the "Positive" column.
LisaM
(27,813 posts)But I will say that when over 50% of a population has never been represented at the highest level of office in the U.S., maybe we need a new ID card.
David__77
(23,421 posts)Personally, I'm not particularly engaged with the issue of "identity politics." I get that someone who identifies with a group might support and appreciate a group member gaining social position or elected office.
In a city council race locally, I had the choice between a gay male Democrat and another (I presume straight) Democrat. I actually personally knew the gay candidate. While I'm gay, voted for the other candidate because my sense was that his ideals and basic impulses were more aligned with my own. That's not to say I don't identify as gay and as a member of a group.
I support all human beings being self-determined and free.

I hope that one of the first Presidents she knows of is a woman and that she won't really remember a country that went almost 250 of its first years of existence without one.
David__77
(23,421 posts)I grew up associating "president" with man. A woman occupying that office will have a formative impact on new generations' associations. I totally get the impact of that.
