Trump encourages Bernie Sanders to run as independent

Donald Trump offered some campaign advice to Bernie Sanders, as the Vermont senator's chances of winning the Democratic presidential nomination grow increasingly slim: run as an independent.

Trump tweeted on Tuesday that Sanders "has been treated terribly by the Democrats — both with delegates & otherwise."

He added: "He should show them, and run as an Independent!"

Presumably, Trump was referring to the Democratic Party's use of superdelegates in its nomination process,
established in 1982,
who are party leaders and elected officials free to support any candidate regardless of primary results. So far, they've overwhelmingly favored Sanders' rival, Hillary Clinton, who also leads among pledged delegates.

Tad Devine, Sanders' top adviser, was instrumental in the creation of the superdelegate process.

What possible relevance could his wishful "thinking" have?

Trump is obviously trying to exploit the feelings of resentment that had built up in the Bernie campaign (feelings that are the result of Bernie obviously not being the DNC favorite, but also of Bernie constantly claiming victim status and therefore encouraging feelings of resentment in his followers). Trump knows this all too well, and he is pretending to be all sympathetic. Only the stupidest people will fall for this ploy. I have enough trust in Bernie's supporters to believe that most of Bernie's supporters will not support a man like Trump, who stands for everything that is NOT progressive.
