Trump: “If Hillary Were a Man, I Don’t Think She’d Get 5 Percent of the Vote”

This is from Slate - http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2016/04/26/donald_trump_says_no_one_would_vote_for_hillary_if_she_were_a_man.html

After nearly a week of endless media coverage on the subject of whether a new, more “presidential” Donald Trump would emerge in the final months of the Republican primary, the New York businessman had his chance to appear just that on Tuesday night. Standing amid supporters at Trump Tower after five overwhelming primary victories, Trump presided over a rambling and pointless news conference, which managed to rehash all of his other news conferences, but at greater length. The personal attacks were still there, although his hatred of Ted Cruz seems to have abated at least a little bit; this time it was John Kasich who took more sustained fire. On the whole, Trump was the same as he has always been: unfocused, compelling, mean, and utterly absurd.

But there was still one moment, near the end of the event, that stood out. Trump was asked a question about Hillary Clinton, and he replied as follows:

"I think the only card she has is the woman’s card. She’s got nothing else going. And frankly: If Hillary Clinton were a man, I don’t think she'd get 5 percent of the vote. The only thing she’s got going is the woman’s card. The beautiful thing is, women don’t like her."

That is exactly how Bernie Sanders has been talking - I can't believe I missed what a sexist pig Bernie is!!!

With Hillary and The Donald being such good friends (after ON EDIT: HER SUPPORTERS started the birther nonsense, he carried that water for a long time), I can only imagine the acrimony started maybe because the Clintons went off-registry for his latest wedding gift?

Either way, it looks like the presumptive front runners are now going to turn their rhetorical skills on each other for a while - will Hillary's battle cry of "I'm not Trump!" win out over the guy with fourteen seasons of carefully crafted he-who-has-the-gold-makes-the-rules "reality television" entertainment?

John Avlon, editor-in-chief of the Daily Beast, explored the roots of the birther movement in his book Wingnuts: How the Lunatic Fringe Is Hijacking America. Avlon described a posting on the PUMA website with the heading "Obama May Be Illegal to Be Elected President!" He wrote that a Clinton volunteer in Texas, Linda Starr, played a key role in spreading the rumor.

"That theory first emerged in the spring of 2008, as Clinton supporters circulated an anonymous email questioning Obama’s citizenship."

But I totally understand why you would want to distance yourself from that smear - Hillary had lots of chances to denounce it, but chose not to. No big deal - Obama got over it, so everyone else should too.

ON EDIT: I have edited the post from "she" to "her supporters" to clarify, although I personally believe the smear belongs to her since she did not denounce it when asked directly. Have a good day!

There was never any email about Obama's citizenship from any Hillary supporter. The anonymous email was from what ever that guy's name was who helped Taitz in her law suits. He sent those emails to several of us which was poo poohed from the get go. There was no reason for Hillary to denounce something she was not part of. Fixed it again for you.

I get it - Why would Hillary scold her good friend Donald Trump when he liked to donate to both sides of the aisle, including her previous campaigns in amounts exceeding $10k? (Pocket change for him!)

"I gave to many people before this — before two months ago, I was a businessman. I give to everybody. When they call, I give. And you know what, when I need something from them two years later, three years later, I call them. They are there for me. That's a broken system."

And how much did he give to the Clinton Foundation? Somewhere between $100,000 and $250,000?

But not, apparently, the Clinton Foundation, which still lists one “Donald J. Trump” on its website under the category of donors who have given between $100,000 and $250,000. The listing does not say when any donations were made.

I'm sure they'll get over this little spat - it's not personal, it's just politics.

Not the least entertaining of which will be all the people who have said that Trump was horrible and that they'd never vote for him, slowly but surely deciding...."Well, maybe he won't be that bad, and....well Hillary is pretty bad herself so....." or "Well, either way the country is fucked so at least with Trump it will be entertaining!"

I'm not one of them but I know plenty who are.

since Tim Robbins gave to Michelle Bachmann are we to say Bernie did? Again, you flat out lied. And BTW there is no evidence, none at all, that those people who purported to be her supporters were, in point of fact, her supporters and most of them voted for McCain. Again, you flat out lied. Lied lied lied lied lied lied lied.
