2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhy is this, MSM and FBI?
Why is it that the FBI has to tip toe about the possibility of recommending action against a presidential candidate because no one wants politics to enter the election in this manner, but...........
the ABSENCE of action if the evidence warrants it ALSO is political.
The people have a RIGHT TO KNOW if a candidate is at risk of prosecution for criminality, corruption in office, money laundering etc. Before there is a nomination. Before there is an election.
I believe it's time to start pressuring the MSM to get this show on the road. Not doing so gives aid and comfort to Republicans.

(24,411 posts)I am gob smacked that HRC hired an IT guy to build an unsecured server on which she conducted all of her State business--that included classified and Top Secret information sent via email. 2000 classified emails; 22 Top Secret.
No one thinks this is funny. It's serious and it's God awful. This could throw this election and our party into a tailspin.
Spinning this situation away, by attacking any one who DARES to bring up this very serious topic, is childish.
We're not engaging in "dreaming" as you said. But you're engaging in pure fantasy if you don't think this year-long FBI investigation of HRC's server isn't as serious as a heart attack.

Personally, I think it's fairly foolish to be running a candidate with this kind of cloud hanging over her, but if this is what the PTBs want, then Hillary's name needs to be completely cleared NOW. Can you imagine the chaos that would ensue if they decide to indict in August or if the matter is still hanging when November rolls around?

Anonymous is a loosely associated international network of activists and hackers. Their members are known as Anons and are sometimes seen in public wearing the Guy Fawkes masks as seen in the movie V for Vendetta.
The anarchist group has hacked the sites of several government agencies around the world, the Church of Scientology, child pornography sites, and several large corporations.
Now, they have apparently have a new target: Hillary Clinton.
This week, the esoteric group posted a video calling out many of Hillary Clintons lies. The video proclaims that she is no different than all the other politicians we have had in the past, and she will only bring negative change to the nation.
Speaking directly to Clinton, the mysterious figure in the video states, It appears that lying has become second nature to you,and You are backed by the same dark suits that have supported every other past president.

(1,377 posts)Because so many people seem to either think there is nothing. Only people who know are people in FBI task force on this and a few people in charge of FBI. I don't even think Obama has the information at this point. He might but I think he would not want it to not appear he is trying to sway them.

(17,064 posts)But the timetable happened because of 2 years of Clinton stalling, refusing to turn over emails, not disclosing the private server, and deleting emails. It could have been finished 2 years ago had she cooperated. Plus she'd have less criminal liability had she cooperated.
Yes, it would have been better to have the matter settled before people started voting in primaries...or at least before the convention. Doesn't look like that will happen. We're probably going to nominate damaged goods. Could be a bloodbath all down ticket if the hammer falls on her during the GE.
highprincipleswork

If not, and it causes damage during the GE, that will be a tragedy. There will be a whole lot of people with culpability for that one.
I, for sure, will not be one of them.

But, by their silence, as you said, they ARE making a political decision.
The closer to the convention they allow this to fester, the more the eventual decision ends up being pure politics.

(11,785 posts)My wild-assed guess is that if they can wrap things up in the next three months, they will. Justified or not, it would be bad PR for the FBI to be seen as messing with an election.
TM99
(8,352 posts)So many Democrats refuse to see it but it is true nonetheless.
They will do their best not to politicize it. These sorts of investigations, if done properly, take time.
The MSM has all but ignored it, and the only reason Fox hasn't is because, well the GOP abhors the Clintons.
It will end when it ends.

(20,176 posts)Because the FBI and DoJ are not amateurs and they don't compromise their investigations by leaking.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1251&pid=1846507
Not even Lynch or Obama likely knows if she's going to be indicted...and that's intentional.
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)Since the DoJ is being updated by the FBI, and they're reviewing evidence together. Lynch probably has a feeling one way or another if she'll bring an indictment, but is waiting for the FBI to finish. I think Obsma is keeping himself separated, but i don't know that for fact. I just don't think he'd risk his legacy at this point by interfering. Only harm could come by doing do...he has nothing to gain.

(50,130 posts)Depends on what their relationship is. Does she have something on him? What kind of pact did they make after last campaign? Those are matters that could influence him.
I hope someone is writing a book about this dramatic six months.
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)And I don't think he has anything to gain by involving himself. He's had no scandals on his end, why start one with a coverup? Or why hurt the Dem party by pushing for an indictment? Either way he loses by interfering. If he stays out of it, his hands are clean, legacy intact.

(59,504 posts)Consider that many Nixon supporters deserted him after the Saturday night massacre. There Nixon was the target, here (if there is one) it is HRC. I agree with you he won't.
However, Obama will be somewhat harmed if his Secretary of State is even reproached by the DOJ, much less indicted or one of her people indicted. It is his administration.

(10,530 posts)we keep hearing rumblings of serious charges against Hillary; yet nothing concrete is brought out.
This has been going on for a pretty long while now.
If there's anything concrete behind it, either there's a prosecutorially strategic reason not to disclose the details in which case, why all the leaks/rumblings about it? or there's no prosecutorial reason, but rather some kind of extortionate reason, which makes more sense, because you're letting Hillary know you've got the goods on her, without giving up your power over her.
Other theories welcome.

My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I dont understand it, she said, dismissing calls to drop out.
(you can go look it up there are lots of sources including a video of Tweety reporting on it)
Shouldn't Bernie start saying that one reason he is staying in the race is in case Hillary is indicted?
