Her voting record clearly and factual does not reflect progressive values. Also, how can a "Progressive" give $200,000 secret speeches to the very people who need to be subjected to more Progressive legislation?
It's as if Teddy Roosevelt would have been giving secret speeches to JP Morgan and John D Rockefeller.
YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS!

(2,450 posts)But that's not enough for me to call anyone a progressive.
For years, all through the 80's and 90's, democrats couldn't win. They lost all the time to the republicans, so if you can't beat them, join them. Then they figured out that they could differentiate themselves by social issues to keep voters happy - which then became the standard: to be fiscally conservative but socially liberal. I can't tell you how many times I heard that refrain. That was considered "progressive." So, trust us. We got this.. go watch TV and be fat, happy, and distracted. Play ball with the team and let the media drive the conversation. Tribal identities play a role as well. But it couldn't last. You're right, you can't have it both ways but, see, they did have it both ways for a long time.
Now that the cognitive dissonance is catching up to us, and the internet is dominating our culture, the terms don't mean what they used to. The terms are actually meaningless now, the word liberal doesn't even mean liberal anymore, it means neoliberal now.
Her voting record is excellent on social issues, for her time. That's the problem, the 90's are over and she's still living in an old mind set. It's like those middle aged people still wearing the fashions they wore in high school. (I probably do this, actually. LOL)
I give it one maybe two more elections before they go extinct.

(10,650 posts)The DLC and the Third Way were created to turn the Democratic party to the right on foreign policy and economic matters. Hillary is THEIR champion. They are not progressives.
Sure, on some social issues the Third Way'ers like Hillary will "evolve", but even then you'll never see her ahead of the curve.
We've got a non-ideologically consistent trump pandering to the far right on many issues and a rightist Democrat who will sell out the working class and middle class at the drop of a hat. What a choice!
