2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumCongratulations Mrs. Clinton on securing the nomination - please read
Now if you wanna go checkout my previous post history knock yourself out but I'm a Bernie guy voted for him here in Oklahoma months ago.
So let's all be real with ourselves folks the voters have spoken on both sides and whether you like it or not the ballot this November will show.
R - Donald J Trump
D - Hillary Rodham Clinton
Now what do we do? Continue to argue and bicker? No we fight for what's best for the country.
You remember the country right, America the real home team. No D's or R's the whole country from sea to shining sea. Now do I prefer the choices above nope not gonna sugar coat it I think they stink. Doesn't matter what I think personally I have to check my feelings at the door on this one, but that does not mean I don't still have a choice to make in November. I have to put my country first and that means supporting Mrs. Clinton going forward. Our country deserves better than me being mad and staying home. Handing the Oval Office to the narcissistic dumbass could have similar ramifications as what happened in 1980. So I ask everyone to please refrain from being bitter and sometimes hateful over the outcome. We are better than this and right now America needs us to unite and save her from harm. What is coming is real and we may lose but I will be damned if I'm giving her up without a fight. Be real with yourself and reflect on the America you want next year and for generations to come. It's not about Bernie or Clinton anymore it's about the United States of America.

(1,252 posts)If we really care than it is time for the people to say enough is enough. There are many who will be voting (I) and if a third party candidate emerges that actually represents the people than the political revolution will occur.

AirmensMom
(14,643 posts)It does seem like it has changed for some things, like when we have a candidate willing to negotiate on social security and abortion.
We have been at war most of my life and it matters little whether a Democrat or Republican is in the White House. I have had family members in the military for at least four generations and most of them have been deployed. I am sick to death of it. We need to stop trying to control the world and start taking care of our own country.

(58,785 posts)According to a recent poll, 19% of Republicans who refuse to vote for Trump will vote for Hillary Clinton. According to another poll, 7% of Bernice followers said they would vote for Trump if Bernie is not our nominee. In any case, you are hardly alone.

(36,478 posts)A two bit actor poked fun at the word liberal & dem leadership tucked tail & ran in fear of the right wing media machine. Now they are on the same corporate gravy train as the GOP. Sure the dems toss us a few more crumbs, but they aren't interested in changing the direction of the train. Notice how they are like crickets when it comes to electronic voting & voting irregularities. We are being played - good cop/bad cop while the 1% hollows out the country.

Republicans will tell you that a vote for anyone other than the Republican is a vote for the Democrat.
Ergo, a vote for neither is a vote for both. QED.

(4,711 posts)But I suppose blaming the voters can be some sort of comfort.
Cary
(11,746 posts)I am saying that if those votes went to Gore then Bush would not have been able to steal the election.
Maybe those 10,000 wanted Bush so he could lie us into a war, drive us into a Great Republican Depression, and implement torture? How do I know?
And what things do you want if your vote or lack thereof causes Republicans to be able to steal the election?
Of course I don't know. That's all on you.
Jester Messiah
(4,711 posts)One might blame the candidate who failed to seal the deal, allowing his opponent to win and do horrible things. Or one might blame those who nominated that flawed candidate. Blaming the voters almost seems like blaming customers for shopping at your competition, causing you to go out of business. Surely it couldn't be... your own fault?
Cary
(11,746 posts)But that doesn't mean that but for those 10,000 Bush would not have won. Your logic is less than perfect.
Sorry for the double negative. It is probably grammatical but still awkward. I am not perfect either.

(27,247 posts)There was a LOT of cheating going on in Florida in 2000. Not only was Bush's campaign co-chair in charge of counting the votes, but she set arbitrary deadlines and halted counting before all the votes were counted. And that was after she and Bush's brother purged more than 60,000 Democratic voters from the voter rolls before the election. And in Volusia County alone, thousands of Gore votes were mysteriously flipped for Bush.

(1,820 posts)If you vote you vote for whom you voted for. Dems run a shitty candidate they take the fallout when people can't or won't vote for them! I call bullshit in the if you don't vote dem you vote Republican. Goal and complete bullshit!
Cary
(11,746 posts)The radical right understands this. It's why they work so hard to gerrymander and suppress votes. If we vote, we win. If we don't vote for Democrats, we lose.
Why are you having so much trouble with that? Too obvious, or what?

(928 posts)It's always been about "us".
Last night Hillary made it very clear there is no "us" for her. She refuses to admit that for many of us she falls short.
The thing I fear most is a so-called Democratic President winning this GE. The last time we had a Clinton in The White House we went backwards in progressive policy. So what will this "Democrat" be willing to give up to the Republicans? Social Security? Third term abortion? Healthcare? If she wins I know exactly who to blame when shit gets real.

(180 posts)As a cancer survivor, I'm desperate for single-payer health care because my deductible is too high to afford the scans I need to monitor for reoccurrance. Why can't Hillary Clinton be for single payer like Bernie Sanders? Why is she so determined to keep for profit health insurance? Doesn't she realize that single payer health care will save lives and cut the cost of health care and prescription drugs? Doesn't she know how much the American people are getting ripped off because of our lack of a single payer system? I'll probably vote for her to prevent the return of preexisting conditions and lifetime limits, but I'm so frustrated with where she stands on the issues that are the most important to me, especially health care and job killing free trade deals.

I know this can't be easy, but I commend you for steeping forward and saying this. I've been where you are far too many times and it always came down to do what's best for the country.
I believe that Secretary Clinton will do the wise thing and adopt some of Senator Sanders platform. I don't believe she will move to the right. It's clear that Democrats and others on the Left want a progressive platform.
Again, thank you and have a good evening.

(67,782 posts)I've never stated my preference in this primary as I've always felt that it's up to the people to decide who they think is the best candidate.
