That's why I don't like the idea of people leaving the Democratic party out of frustration and not being represented.
At some point the neo-liberals are going to major fail.

While I don't think Hillary will improve on it at all, I am fairly confident she won't gut it like a Republican would. Of course my ideal situation would be for Sanders and a Democratic majority to pass some type of single payer system.

(34,845 posts)Take all that together and you come away with pretty clear evidence that over the course of the Democratic primary young voters have become more attached to progressive politics and the Democratic party. One read of this is that the primary process itself - as divisive as it has sometimes seemed - has deepened young voters' identification with the Democratic party.

(4,775 posts)I spend some time reading threads on Reddit and elsewhere that are inhabited by young millenials for Bernie. There is no love for the Democratic Party in those circles, they are seen as an obstacle to reform rather than a vehicle for it. If they identify with the Democratic Party, it is because Bernie is running and will not transfer to corporate Democrats, the kids are onto you.

Hi, Punkingal.
I was asking a serious question. I just don't see how we can "help" her be a better president when she so obviously doesn't care what most of us think. Her presidency, if she even gets elected, will be a disaster. I shudder when I think about it.
senz
(11,945 posts)I believe the ethics, morals, and psychological stability of the president are fundamental.

(34,845 posts)Obama said it best recently: you can't get change if you don't try to talk with the people you want to change things.
I think the election issues this primary highlighted are a good topic for change. So is pressing for faster action on climate change. Rallies. Petitions. Something other than social media postings.
I don't have the answers. To be honest, I don't think the actions of any politician have affected me or mine in...ever. Sure, 9/11 made me wait a little longer to go through airport security but that's about it.
Clinton will not be the ideal President for most. She is not mine. But she won't be the monster others imagine her to be, either. I'm certain of that. And hey, I was right about her coming out on top over Sanders so it's probably safe to assume that I'm always right. Right?

(11,945 posts)she gets it done by stacking the deck, paying people off, and intimidation. She's also been at it for 16 years because she has no natural talent and no message of her own.
But I learned last night that y'all are most likely authoritarian followers, so you'll follow your authority regardless of who she is and what she does. And I don't know how to help you, oasis. Whatever made you this way is beyond my power to change.

(11,945 posts)and just didn't feel up to it. Today, looking at the impending elections, I pushed myself and still didn't finish until close to the end of voting time. And man do my hands hurt.
I just heard on NPR (ugh) that her voters picked her because they thought she was more accomplished and could beat the Republicans in the GE, both of which we know are wrong. Completely wrong.
So, since "mea culpa" is my middle name, I'm feeling guilty. Although I know one little old lady isn't going to make the difference. I've got to work on the guilt thing.
NPR is crowing over this, and I could slap them for it.

(23,272 posts)We need bold, muscular international leadership on this. Hillary is tepid at best.
Her international campaign for fracking here and abroad is a fact.
Her support for cluster bombs is an environmental disgrace not to mention the toxicity of war in general to the planet.
TPP all but guarantees environmental degradation. Hillary supports it with some "tweaks".
Recursion
(56,582 posts)I mean, you are aware of that, I hope, since you seem to care about this? Natural gas burns cleaner than coal. Fracking is a large part of why our emissions are falling at the rate they are.
TPP all but guarantees environmental degradation.
Ummm.... no, it puts stronger environmental standards in place in most of its signatories than they currently have.

(23,272 posts)How about we go hard to renewables and not fight this?
http://ecowatch.com/2015/06/18/martin-omalley-climate-plan/
Recursion
(56,582 posts)I'm all for renewables, but I prefer natural gas to coal.
The bigger shift will be when we go to mostly driverless electric cars and driverless trucks over the next couple of decades. That in turn will mean as radical a shift in development and urban planning as the 1950s were.

(23,272 posts)FWIW, I amended my post to include O'Malleys positions.
Any search of my posting history shows i was really in O'Malleys camp for a long time before I committed to Sanders.
Recursion
(56,582 posts)Fracking has allowed our power production grid to cut the amount of coal it uses in half by replacing it with natural gas.
Fracking has a lot of problems, but it's definitely a factor in reducing emissions.

(14,004 posts)It goes beyond this election and I think the party will have no choice but to modify their positions to be much less Wall Street friendly and much more working class friendly. BUT we have to keep up the pressure on the congress critters and Clinton (if she wins the presidency), and then elect more progressive folks. I'm optimistic this will happen, but I've been wrong before. Hopefully not this time!

(7,321 posts)we're going have to come to an agreement to shake that one off as well.
First they co-opted the term Liberal, and now they've co-opted Progressive.
Got to give that to 'em, they have the art of CO-OPTING progressive ideas for campaigns down and everyone keeps falling for it, only to see it get flushed down the toilet once elected.
