2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe MSM is getting ridiculous
Obama leads OH 50-46 in a CNN poll and they say its a tie
He leads in a PA poll 49-43 and they say he is under 50%
He leads in a VA poll 51-47 and he is clinging on
But any poll showing Romney ahead by even 1 point and they say he is winning

(4,310 posts)in a multi-billion dollar leverage buyout with Clear Channel ( they own something like 850 radio
stations, billboard companies) and Time Warner was also involved. I tried unraveling some of it
this afternoon and it's so convoluted the average person can't make heads or tails out of it. Willard
is their guy. Obama has the people that's why we have to GOTV and be his media machine.
CNN is on par with faux news. Ted Turner must be tearing his hair out.

(1,134 posts)in a lot of media pies and is in a lot of people's pockets. This is why the media is even more out of control than usual. Romney has been leveraging the media through Bain. Not hard given there are only a few media companies to begin with. They're all buddy buddy at the top.

All of these lilly white talking heads figured there was no way in hell a black man could be re-elected with the economy not fully recovered from the Bush Crash of '08.

(4,167 posts)In September when Obama was winning by a decent margin in the National polls and winning by a huge margin in the electoral map the MSM constantly claimed the race was close.
Now that Mitt is leading by a small margin in the National polls, while Obama is winning the electoral vote by a small margin the MSM is claiming Mitt is winning. WTF

(304 posts)I just hate how they're literally injecting themselves into this election. They need to back up, for sure.

(37 posts)I asked him if it was 'just me?', that the 'networks' seem to have already predicted that Romney is going to win the election because he is 1 point ahead of Obama in the national polls. Where, when Obama was up by 7 points, it was 'oh, he has a narrow lead', etc.
WTF????
I surmise that the Koch Bros., Rove, and their minions have been giving them millions to sway the commentary.
I know, I know, nothing new, but it does seem to be out of control the last couple of months.

(9,753 posts)Ad spends, viewership (which feeds into the rate structure even after the election), raising the profile of individual journalists/talking heads . . . it's all about money.
The US MSM only gets this orgy of attention every 4 years and they are going to milk it until the cow runs dry. Making hay while the sun shines is an irreducible concept from Business 101.
No horse race = no big end-of-year bonuses. And struggling news organizations have been facing lean times and intense competition from each other for years.
And this applies whether the individual outlet is left-leaning, right-leaning, centrist or genuinely apolitical.

(6,979 posts)I just saw on Realclearpolitics where Howard Fineman--who usually is pretty decent on all things politics---Tweeted that because the Des Moines Register endorsed Mitt Rob-me, that means that--although unscientific like the work Nate Silver does--- President Obama may LOSE the election to Mitt Rob-me ...
I thought it was satire, but it wasn't...just wow .....

It's not scientific or quantifiable by Nate Silver but Des Moines Register endorsement of Mitt first time it's' clear O may lose the race.

(5,364 posts)Title of article says number of early voters in NC top 1 million, then says republicans see big gains. Then the text of the article explains and gives the numbers who voted from each party. Democratic was 500K+, Republicans in the high 200K range, Independents in the high 100K range. It went on to say that even though democratic voters far outnumbered republicans, it explicity stated that the rate of republican early voting increased was the highest since 2008. It then ended with some chest beating quote from a republican hack.
Anybody could see this was nothing but horse race bullshit. Made me angry.

They want you to know what they think you should know, so you can be controlled and vote the way they want you too.

(45,251 posts)I knew five or six corporations own most media outlets, but I never put it together with what MSM stands for.
We should call it CSM, for corporate stream media, or MSM for money stream media, orr WSM, for Wall Street media.

Freeps want Romney to win, so they favor their polls.
The media wants a close race. So everything is a "dead heat."
Those pundits and "journalists" would have an orgasm on live TV if it was electoral tie.
