2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhy big crowds don’t equal big votes for Bernie Sanders
But we knew this, right?
Earlier this month, 15,000 people packed into New Yorks Washington Square Park to hear US Senator Bernie Sanders. It was the largest rally for any candidate in the New York presidential primary until 28,000 people came to hear Sanders in Prospect Park in Brooklyn a few days later. That was the biggest rally of Sanders presidential campaign.
On Tuesday, Sanders lost the New York primary to Hillary Clinton by 16 percentage points. Sanders not only lost Brooklyn, but he also lost the neighborhood where he grew up.

Beware the Crowdsmanship: When it comes to campaign rallies, does size matter?

We are entering the season of crowdsmanship, counting up the people who gather to see the presidential candidates on these autumn days, political columnist Hugh Sidey observed in a Life magazine article in September 1968. The prehistoric political ritual is being practiced in 1968 with fresh fervor.
Unlike some political reporters today, Sidey wasnt fooled by all the hype, observing, it is almost worthless as a campaign measure in this age. It may even be worse it may totally mislead the contenders and the country.

(17,651 posts)7. Such bullshit. Sanders has extremely impressive vote totals for a nobody.
Especially someone who wasnt on anyone's Presidential radar a year ago.
That Clinton is still battling this candidate, says way more about her weaknesses than Sanders' strength.
So yea......absolute bullshit.
