Sanders Says He'll Help Defeat Republicans If Clinton Is Nominee

http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2016-04-24/sanders-says-he-ll-help-defeat-republicans-if-clinton-is-nominee

Bernie Sanders is starting to talk about losing, and what he’d like Hillary Clinton to do if she’s the party’s nominee.

The Vermont senator, whose insurgent campaign has energized millions on the left and challenged the prohibitive favorite, said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that he would work to defeat the Republican candidate if she’s the Democratic nominee. Still, he urged her to adopt many of his agenda items.

“You know, I can’t snap my finger and tell people what to do,” Sanders said. “But what I will do is do everything that I can to make sure that somebody like a Donald Trump, or some other right-wing Republican, does not become president of the United States."

“If Secretary Clinton is the nominee, she is going to have to make the case to the American people, not just to my supporters, but all Americans, that she is prepared to stand up to the billionaire class, she is prepared to fight for health care for all Americans, that she is prepared to pass paid family and medical leave, make sure that college is affordable for the young people in this country," Sanders said.

I am not surprised. I might wish he would take a run on a third party ticket but, it is not feasible Hiraeth Apr 2016 #7

I like that he flatly stated that he'll work
to get Democrats elected.

So much for the recent speculation we've been hearing from some Hillarines that "Bernie won't help in the general" or that "Bernie will run on a third-party ticket." Sheesh.

I hear so called Bernie supporters making those claims. In this thread already you can read that if Bernie helps the Democrats win, all he has done was for NOTHING. I have read numerous posts where his "so called" supporters say he will run as an independent, or he should. I read a post where some are trying to get people to protest at the convention if Bernie does not win. All this kind of crap from so called supporters of his will not help keep republicans out of the WH, it will help them attack Clinton.

There are trolls here in both camps, they don't want a democrat to win, and that's their agenda.

I also have read on another site, where a vast majority of posters for here go, that it wouldn't be all the bad if Trump did win, because it would get rid of Hillary, the 3rd way, and they stated it isn't that big of a deal if we don't put another liberal on the Supreme Court! Totally right wing talking points, and the board it full of shit posts like that. Those same poster come here everyday trying to divide DU. No if they feel this way why come here if their goal is to elect Bernie? Nobody here is going to change their minds, not really. Some may say so, but that's just more BS from trolls.

The goal, no matter which one wins is to make damn sure we keep a Democrat in the WH, and under no circumstance can we allow idiots like Trump or Cruz to end up winning in November. Those who say other wise are trolls or fools.

...stated such things. While I have no faith in him I always give people the 'wait and see' before I just decide willy-nilly what they're going to do. (Edit: 'no faith' doesn't mean 'anti-faith'. It means I don't trust him, but I don't distrust him either)

The only talk I have seen about third-parties has been from faux (?) Bernie supporters.

The 'faux (?)' isn't an accusation; it's a suspicion I have, based on attitude of some, with no actual evidence.

fighting against valiantly for many, many years, even when no Democrats would rise to the challenge.

Now, I don't agree that he said no Third Party. He said he'll help to defeat Republicans.

Isn't that what we all should be for? I, for one, give barely a whit for the Establishment Democratic Party the way it is now. It is corrupt, it has little chance of success at things I really care about.

In the end, the Democratic Party and this website are going to continue to have some soul-searching to do and some hard nights and days ahead of it. If it can't become the "Party of the People" again, I think it's going to continue to have major problems, no matter what numbers you can cite for this or that.
