... instead of allowing drive-by voters or impulse-voters (who don't care enough about the party to even bother checking a little box) to influence the primary outcome.

And, thus we see, in real time, the "effectiveness" of the protest-gesture about which so many "independents" take such personal pride and satisfaction.

In their efforts to "teach the party a lesson" and to "send a message of disapproval", they've refused to be affiliated with the Democratic party. Okay fine. But now that they want to participate, they find that they can't.

Who's learning the lesson NOW?

Get it? Get it? The bread represents the primary election. The ingredients represent commitment to the party. (And by "commitment" that means either contributing work or financial support, OR simply checking the little box that says "Democrat".) And eating the bread represents being able to actually cast a ballot for the candidate that will represent the Democratic Party. Get it?
