Caucus miscommunication means one more (Alaska) delegate for Bernie

http://www.adn.com/article/20160423/caucus-miscommunication-means-one-more-delegate-bernie-sanders

Count one more Alaska state delegate for Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.

Sanders collected one more delegate from rival Hillary Clinton on Friday after a challenge from his Alaska campaign found that proxy voting cards issued during the March 26 caucus were in violation of caucus rules, according to Sanders' state coordinator, Jill Yordy.

An overwhelming caucus turnout of over 4,500 people at West Anchorage High School last month resulted in a miscommunication for some members of state House District 18 in Anchorage. Some Clinton voters were issued proxy voting cards and left before the caucus fan-out was over, in violation of the delegate selection plan, according to Yordy.

She said the Democratic Party’s credentials committee met Friday and decided that issuing the proxy votes was incorrect, issuing one more delegate from House District 18 to Sanders.

That puts Sanders' total state delegate count at 436 to Clinton’s 103.

Alaska Democratic Party spokesman Jake Hamburg confirmed the committee met and said in a phone interview Saturday that the additional delegate will not affect the 16 pledged national delegates already assigned to Sanders.

All we hear about are delegates being switched after the fact in these caucuses with their byzantine rules. But they are the cat's meow because one candidate did better in them? F*** that noise.

3. There was quite an outcry about this on the day of the caucus.

It seems like most of the districts were clear-cut and straightforward with no shenanigans, but somebody tried the proxy route with Dist. 18. I'm glad they straightened it out. It probably won't make much difference at the state convention next month, but at least it's right.

People in that District were really upset about it. There were so many of people present from that district that they had to take it outside into the parking lot. Everyone knew how many people were lined up for Hillary and how many for Bernie, so they were naturally pretty upset when the final numbers showed Hillary with that extra delegate.

Like I said, it won't make a lot of difference at the state convention, but our rules are clear, and I'm glad that they weren't able to get away with this.

we're weird that way - I remember helping campaign for Bill Egan, and he remembered both me, my girlfriend Jonilee, my boyfriend (now spouse) Steve - AND the names of Steve's folks, who weren't with us that night!

It's great having not a lot of people.............
