2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumEnd the caucuses and close the primaries.
Then, get rid of superdelegates altogether. Campaign in every state. Winner take all / popular vote wins. There's your 50 state strategy.
This would grow the party through registration, and eliminate the need for superdelegates.

(1,048 posts)I agree with this except the closed primary suggestion. Why not allow everyone to vote in every state. Like it or not, Independents matter. As for this cycle, they can drink a tall glass of Chateau de STFU because they knew the rules and now want to whine about it. Didn't know about the deadline to switch or register as a Dem before voting? Tough shit. But going forward, primaries should be open.

(19,877 posts)You would still need superdelegates. An independent voting is a republican voting. And I absolutely do not put it passed the Republican party to somehow exploit the process to weaken the Dem party. This way, only Democrats get to decide who the Democratic party nominee is. Indies can vote in the GE.

(3,431 posts)Primaries are paid for by the state unlike caucuses.
In that case they cannot be closed, because the indies
pay taxes as well.
As a matter of fact we had closed caucuses this year
with so many complaints from all sides, that our
legislature is working on open primary rules for
the next round.

(45,319 posts)year after year, haven't broken 30% turnout in years. There are reasons for this. Do something about it, you have the budget and agency to advocate change. Do so.

(80,708 posts)No reforms mean shit if we continue to favor certain states by going early every 4 years.

(3,431 posts)The lesser known candidates gain time to
introduce themselves and their ideas to the public.
However, the states should rotate for the timing.

(80,708 posts)But what isnt right is letting the same crowd go first every 4 years.
