Related: About this forumObama and the Koran: Was it wrong to say sorry?
To be fair, the Koran incident has put the unpredictable President Karzai between a rock and a hard place, with little political capital in the bank.
No doubt there should be an Afghan apology as well as an American one - particularly if the Afghan government expects the US Congress and the American people to continue to support this fragile and frustrating relationship.
'Not deliberate'

Apparently that's what the righties think should have happened.
Thinking people understand the necessity of apologizing and diplomacy. Not apologizing puts our people over there at even greater risk than they already are. When Bush was President he apologized for a similar incident.
Only a fool would think President Obama's apology was the wrong thing to do.

(1,248 posts)if U.S. troops weren't there in the first place, there'd be no need to apologize for anything. The fact that they are there and apparently will continue to be there for some time just makes it possible for more 'incidents' to occur.
Long past time to leave Afghanistan to the Afghans. Even the Soviet Union had enough sense to leave the place after 10 years.
